This article gives you ideas of how to use Camerupt in battle in the Pokémon Black, Pokémon White and Pokemon B2W2 Games. It lists popular movesets used by competitive battlers, as well as a description on how to use each set to help you understand why the moves were chosen. These popular sets are usually the best to use in battle and so reading this guide will help you in your team building.
Gen 4: OverviewCamerupt can sweep teams on the Physical or Special side, support teams, or it can act as a wall that can be either Physical or Special. All the options outlined above make Camerupt an amazing Pokémon that can do various roles on many types of teams.

This is the supporting build for Camerupt. The choice between Flamethrower and Lava Plume is dependant on personal preference.
You have Stealth Rock listed as an option so Flying-types such as Altaria will have a hard time switching in. Earth Power is for STAB and it 2HKOs Lanturn and OHKOs those Rock / Steel-types who take neutral damage from the Fire moves. The last move is up to personal preference again. Yawn could go well with Stealth Rock to force switches, whereas Toxic can help stall out opponents such as Hypno. Additionally, Explosion can be used if you want to destroy an opponent.
Ability | Nature | Item | HP | Atk. | Def. | SpAtk. | SpDef. | Speed
Solid Rock | Quiet | life orb | 252 | 0 | 6 | 252 | 0 | 0

On this set you need the lowest Speed stat possible as it translates to quickness under Trick Room, so running a Nature other then Quiet on this set is not advised. Hidden Power Grass is for Gastrodon, Quagsire, Whiscash etc., while Hidden Power Electric can be used for Mantine and Pelipper. Heat Wave has the most power but the least accuracy. Flamethrower is for an accurate yet powerful option, while Lave Plume is to be used for its 30% chance of causing a Burn. Ancient Power damages Flying-type Pokémon such as Altaria and it might prove to be an excellent option since it grants you that little chance of boosting all stats.

Solid Rock | Brave | choice band | 6 | 252 | 0 | 252 | 0 | 0

This is the Physical build of Camerupt, which will probably surprise your opponent who will be expecting Camerupt to be Special. Earthquake is for a powerful STAB option that OHKOs Lanturn and all those Rock / Steel-types. Stone Edge covers Flying-types such as the ever so annoying Altaria. Since Camerupt lacks a good Physical STAB Fire move, Overheat can be used due to its high Base Power and the absence of other Special moves on this set. Explosion in conjunction with Choice Band will assure a kill on anything that comes in, except Ghost-types.

Solid Rock | Quiet | choice specs | 6 | 252 | 0 | 252 | 0 | 0

A Choice Specs Camerupt is one of the most fearsome beasts you will ever encounter. This set’s Explosion isn´t as powerful as the previous set’s Explosion, but it still can do some pretty decent damage. Earth Power gets STAB and hurts other Fire-types. Overheat starts of as a powerful STAB move but gradually gets weaker after the Special Attack drop, while Fire Blast is for a more consistent option. Hidden Power Grass hits Water-types such Gastrodon, Whiscash, Quagsire etc. badly, whereas Hidden Power Ice dents Altaria pretty hard.

If you lack a good status absorber, then look no further. This Camerupt set makes an excellent status absorber as it has a unique typing which makes it immune to the most common status conditions, and a random Toxic can be Rested off pretty easily. Once you´ve Rested, use Sleep Talk to randomize a move. Stone Edge can be utilized to deal heavy damage to Flying-types such as Fearow, Swellow etc. Earthquake is a STAB move that takes out Steel-types such as Steelix, Aggron etc.
Ability | Nature | Item | HP | Atk. | Def. | SpAtk. | SpDef. | Speed
Solid Rock | Modest | leftovers | 228 | 0 | 0 | 96 | 184 | 0

This set practically carries the same concept as the above set. However, its moves are Special instead of Physical. Other Fire moves shouldn’t really be used here. This is because the Burn rate which occurs due to Lava Plume is really needed to make this set much more efficient. Earth Power hits stuff like Omastar and Torkoal pretty hard and it is a useful STAB option.
Ability | Nature | Item | HP | Atk. | Def. | SpAtk. | SpDef. | Speed
Solid Rock | Hasty / Naive | life orb / leftovers | 0 | 8 | 0 | 252 | 0 | 248

After a single Rock Polish you can outrun a Jolly Purugly, meaning you should be able to sweep easily if you have Stealth Rock down. Explosion is there just in case you predict the end of your fatal sweep. Fire Blast will hit most Pokémon that aren’t resistant to it pretty hard, while Earth Power does the same and it gives Camerupt a way of beating Aggron, Steelix, Lanturn, and more Mixed walls that attempt to wall Camerupt. Additionally, Eruption can replace Fire Blast. Since you’ll be faster than things such as Purugly, and your Health will probably stay intact due to bringing this in late game, Eruption could make quite an excellent option on this set.
Camerupt usually attempts to support its team mates by abusing its unique typing (which grants it an immunity to both Burn and Paralysis, which is very helpful for a supporter), and its amazing stats and move pool. The supporting set can also hurt the opponent’s Pokémon pretty badly considering it gets “good” coverage on most of the Pokémon present in the Under Used environment.
Other OptionsIf Camerupt is used on Sunny Day teams, it can abuse the combination of Solarbeam and Flamethrower. Roar is an okay option on the first set to actually cause switches. Return is always an option on the Choice Band set. Will–O–Wisp is a good move if you don’t mind its miss ratio.
Usual CountersMantine is a good counter as it is immune to one of Camerupt’s STAB moves and resists the other; its high Special Defense can also aid it to become an excellent counter to Camerupt. Although, Mantine will take a lot of damage from Hidden Power Electric, and is OHKOed by Stone Edge. Other Water-types such as Gastrodon and Quagsire are good switch ins, as they are able to OHKO Camerupt with Surf. However, they should be careful of Hidden Power Grass. Altaria is an amazing counter as well because it also resists Camerupt’s STAB attacks and can deal heavy damage with a Super Effective Earthquake. Not only does Grumpig support a high Special Defense stat which makes it able to survive Camerupt’s Special moves easily, but it also has Thick Fat which boosts its survivability to STAB Fire moves from Camerupt.
OpinionOverall Camerupt is a slow, bulky and powerful sweeper that can fulfill many roles on a variety of teams. Its Solid Rock ability, which makes Super Effective moves hitting it do 0.25% less damage, is also a colossal aid that makes Camerupt a much better sweeper.
