Using Raikou in battle
Most Used Raikou Set: Sub cm and bolt beam are the moves used on the most popular set, obviously bolt beam is only resisted by 3 pokes, 2 of which you probably will never see in standard competitive battling, but one is one of the most popular in ou so it’s a little tradeoff, furthermore, raikou makes an excellent sweeper, since with it’s high speed and sp.atk, it can basically outspeed and ko everything after a few cms.
Usual Counters: You basically have to hit raikou hard before it gets a chance of effectively pulling off a sweep, bulky ground types serve as decent counters, especially ones that can survive hp ice even after a boost (solid rock rhyperior in ss and many more), swampert also serves as a fine example, although it should be careful of hp grass, but if it happens to run hp grass, then dragonite and salamence make decent counters, so basically, raikou can kill a counter if it decides to switch the type of hp, but if it does so, then it gets a new counter, just like Lucario and It’s last move option(it has to choose between crunch, bullet punch or ice punch, and once it chooses one it gets a new counter).
Sets Used To Counter Its Counters: Nothing really, if you decide to switch from hp ice to hp grass, or vice versa, then you gain new counters, and since you can’t have 2 types of hp at the same time, and even if you did you won’t have the moveslot for it, then yeah….
Raikou Is Most Used On: Offensive or standard ou teams, there also has currently been a rise of teams centered around raikou to perform a sweep, so be careful of that.
