Jirachi:

Summary:

Most Used Jirachi Set:

Jirachi's most used set is the set utilizing Calm Mind. Jirachi has a base 100 special attack, which means after a few cms, not much is going to hold it back. Because of it's excellent typing, it has multiple times to come in on a poision move, preferably blissey's toxic, and set up.

Usual Counters:

Jirachi's usual counters are those that can resist almost all of it's attacks, much like heatran, swampert, and rotom. Due to jirachi's large movepool and diversity, you never know what set you're going to run into, so you cant really find a #1 counter to jirachi. Heatrans with Fireblast's pose a threat to CM rachi, and it also can come in on any of jirachi elemental punches. Tyranitar's CB or DD Earthquake is going to massacre jirachi unless it can hit back with a iron head or grass knot, Swampert resist every one of jirachi attacks bar grass knot.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

Jirachi's used in all types of teams, whether it's rain dance, or semi-stall. Jirachi's large movepool makes it unpredictable so you never really know what you're going to get.

Timid (+Spe, -Att)
EV's: 252Hp / 80SpA / 176Spe

-Substitute
-Calm Mind
-Psychic/Flash Cannon
-Thunder/Thunderbolt/Hidden Power Fighting

Jirachi has the excellent option of 101 subs, the bane of 252/252 bold Blissey's existence. The idea is to sub up, take a seismic toss without breaking the sub, and proceed to Calm mind on your free turn. Rinse and repeat until you have 6 calm minds up and proceed to destroy the pink blob with +6 stab psychics. That being said, Blissey is known to run more SpD EV's these days just for this reason, so watch out. The last slot you're personal prefrence. Thunderbolt provides power and accuracy with a handy 30% paralyse rate, and it can hit bulky waters like suicune, vaporeon, and gyarados. Hidden Power Fighting makes for excellent coverage at the cost of power but is the only real answer to Heatran. You can run either psychic or Flash cannon, both have their flaws, flash canon hit's Tyranitar, Flygon, and Mamoswine. While Psychic can take down swampert with ease.

Serene Grace
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EV's: 80HP / 252Atk / 176Spe

-Iron Head
-Trick
-Stealth Rock/Thunder Wave
-U-turn

Jirachi gets access to trick, which makes it a great anti-lead. Iron Head sorts out common leads like Aerodactyl and Azelf in 2 hits of which have a 60% flinch rate, so most of the time they won't be doing anything. Trick is for slower leads like Tyranitar, Hippowdon and Bronzong and will effectively shut them down for the rest of the fight. U-turn is obviously for scouting and offers some nice Magnezone protection. Once you have Tricked away your Choice Scarf you have the chance to offer some Utility like your own Stealth Rocks, some T-Wave or even a wish if you plan on using this guy's Trick later in the game.

- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- Iron Head
- U-turn/Trick/T-bolt

This set is quite simple, it's a revenge killer for various threats in this metagame today. Salamence get a Dragon Dance? No problem, send in rachi and ice punch it for the revenge kill. Iron Head is for stab damage and taking care of many threats like latias, gengar, and roserade. Rachi also get a 60% change for flinch hax, so that's always nice. Thunderbolt can be used in place of trick for Gyarados (outspeeds after one Dragon Dance) mainly but also hits the likes of suicune and vaporeon. Fire punch is for scizor and lucario, you can also use trick to demolish stall teams, then go on from there. When running this set, you must watch out for things that resist jirachi's moves, like swampert and heatran, so it's always good to have pokemon that can take care of them.

Naive (+Spe, -SpD)
Ev's: 252Atk / 4SpA / 252Spe

-Iron Head
-Fire Punch
-Ice Punch
-Grass Knot/Thunderbolt

This set is similar to the choice scarf set but, the main advantage this set has over all others is the surprise factor. Bring him in on something you can handle and unleash a physical attack on it then hope for a choice item prediction from your opponent. They then send in something like Swampert, Skarmory, Gyarados or Salamence to set up and you act accordingly. Iron Head is amazing, 60% flinch and 80bp + STAB coming off a 100 base attack is just nice and can allow for some quite easy late game sweeping. The rest are for covering your least favorite walls. Don't be fooled into thinking you can have either T-bolt or Grass Knot, you can run with any combo of the last four moves in accordance with what your team needs.

Special Wish-Support

Serene Grace
Careful (+Sp.D, -SpA)
EVs: 252 HP/42 Spd/216 SDef

- Iron Head
- Wish/U-turn
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Wave

Jirachi is one of the best wish-passes the game can offer. The idea here is to come in on any special attack, cripple the special attacker and proceed with iron head. This set counters so many threats out there like Choice Specs Latias, Gengar, Starmie, Vaporeon, and many more. Fire punch is only there so scizor wont be U-turning in you're face, and it also helps against lucario. The last slot is for team support. Reflect also helps Jirachi take Earthquakes better as Lightscreen helps with Flamethrowers.
Wish could be replaced with U-turn if you already have a wisher on you're team, like vaporeon or blissey. Mainly bulky waters like suicune, and swampert walls this set, other pokemon like gliscor, flygon, salamence, heatran, and mamoswine can also come in and do damage to this jirachi, so try and pair it up with a bulky water that can take the hits aimed at jirachi.

Serene Grace
Bold(+Def, -Att)
EV's: 252 HP / 220 DEF / 36 SPE

- Wish
- Calm Mind
- Psychic/Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

This set was created quite a while ago, and it changed the metagame dramatically, with the ability to heal itself with wish, and the great immunity to Toxic, Jirachi is a force to be reckoned with. Normal stall teams has a hard time taking out this Jirachi due to not having anything that can trick it, a big diffrence between this set and the Substitute + Calm Mind set is Wish, jirachi can heal it'self as it preceed to Calm Mind up.

Taking a look at it's ev spread and nature, you notice that because rachi has no sub to absorb attacks, it was given defensive evs to help give it more physical bulk. With this set, you can survive a +1 Adamant LO EQ from gyarados at full health, and kill it with thunderbolt. Flash Cannon can be used over Psychic so you can kill off Tyranitar, while Psychic can be used over Flash Canon so you can have a better time against Swampert, Gliscor, and Machamp, but it's up to you really.

Jirachi can also act as a cleric passing wishes to other teammates is always nice, a good teammember to this set would have to be Tyranitar, Tyranitar can absorb tricks aimed at this rachi, it also can handle threats like Latias, and Heatran to some extent

Other Options:

Dual Screen Jirachi deserves a mention, it could serve as a good screener wheather its early game, mid game, or late game. Set up you're screens, then U-turn to a sweeper late game for the desired sweep. You could also attack Light Clay on rachi so the Screens can last longer. Charge Beam goes great with Serene Grace to provide a 100% chance of boost. But, it's odd that you find Charge Beam on Jirachi these days due to better options like CM and T-Bolt.

Opinion:

Jirachi is such a great pokemon, It takes no sandstorm damage, minimal Stealth Rock damage and has a plethora of useful resistances not to mention its amazing movepool.
