Summary:

Most Used Lucario Set:

Lucario's most common set is Swords Dance, being able to set up easily and hit with Priority and power. Choice Specs is also common as it allows Lucario to 2HKO and OHKO its usual counters

Usual Counters:

Weezing and Gliscor are the best SD Lucario counters to ever exist, with Weezing being able to take a Close Combat or Crunch and burn Lucario, afterwards threatening with a Flamethrower or Paint Split. Gliscor can Roost off damage and hit back with Earthquake. A wall Gyarados is another Pokemon to consider, as it can Intimidate Lucario and force it to switch with Roar. Hippowdon can be used if you do not like Gliscor. Zapdos can function as a counter, only taking 53% - 62.4% from a boosted Close Combat. As for checks, Choice Scarf Rotom-H and Gengar are great to use, but you have to be careful of Tyranitar's Pursuit, especially as Tyranitar is Lucario's best teammate. Magnezone can be used to trap Lucario if it uses Extremespeed or Crunch, OHKOing back with Hidden Power Fire. Mach Punch Infernape is great to revenge kill Lucario with, OHKOing when Lucario has a defense drop. Finally, defensive Zapdos can switch in on Swords Dance and attack Lucario with Heat Wave, as Life Orb kills the jackal of steel.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

Lucario is usually used on offensive teams, where it can break walls or beat sweepers down with priority or STAB. Pokemon that go great with Lucario are Pokemon that beat its counters, namely Hippowdon, Weezing and Gliscor. Most bulky waters such as Suicune or strong Grass types like Life Orb Celebi will have a field day with these Pokemon. Vaporeon can deal with Scarfed Heatran, Gliscor and Hippowdon with Surf and Gyarados with Hidden Power Electric. Also, when using Lucario, try to have entry hazards to grab more OHKOs and 2HKOs Tyranitar can set up Stealth Rock and Sandstorm, which Lucario is immune to, with Sandstorm causing even more damage! In addition, Tyranitar also Pursuits away common checks like Scarf Rotom-H.

Swords Dance:

Lucario:@ Life Orb
Inner Focus/ Steadfast
252 Att, 252 spd, 6 def
Adamant
-Swords Dance
-Extremespeed/ Bullet Punch
-Close Combat
-Crunch/ Ice Punch

Lucario's main set. Without a Life Orb and Swords Dance, Lucario's attack reaches 350. After a Life Orb, this hits 455 and after a Swords Dance, Lucario's attack hits 910! Coupled with a priority move, Lucario becomes one of the greatest sweepers in the entire game. Extremespped is usually used, but Bullet Punch is available for hitting Gengar, Mismagius, and the like. Many people opt to use Crunch to OHKO Rotom-A, Cresselia and Latias, but Ice Punch beats the biggest Lucario counter of them all- Gliscor. Finally, Close Combat is Lucario's main stab move, Close Combat, 2HKOs everything that does not resist it in OU. This set is most common because it does not bring Lucario to low health, is easy to set up, and Lucario doesn't mind Stealth Rock, which does a measly 3%!

Subpetaya

Lucario:@ Petaya Berry
252 spatt, 246 spd, 12 hp
Modest
-Agility
-Substitute
-Aura Sphere
-Shadow Ball

Another set that is easy to set up. Basicly, this is just like SubPetaya Empoleon, except Lucario has flawless coverage and Lucario's faster, being ast enough to outspeed and Ko Scarf Starmie. After a Petaya Boost, Lucario gets a boost equivilant to a Choice Specs boost! This means that Lucario's Aura Sphere can now 2HKO Bold Blissey, and other walls! This set's main problem is Scizor, because Bullet Punch ko's Lucario when it reaches Petaya range. Therefore, the best Pokemon to pair up with Lucario is Magnezone, and prehaps a Scizor lure, such as Tyranitar, who provides Sand Storm, which does not do any damage to Lucario and Magnezone. The HP evs are so you get a 4 Substitute number with the least amount of hp.

+2 Lucario reaches 554 speed. This outspeeds

+ Speed Deoxys-E
+ Speed Scarf Base 115 (Starmie, Azelf, Raikou)

CB Cario

Lucario @ Choice Band
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature: Adamant / Jolly
-Close Combat
-Crunch
-Ice Punch/Stone Edge
-Extreme Speed

While Swords Dance Lucario may be strong, it takes a turn to set up. With a Choice Band, Lucario can still nab kos on Forretress and Scizor with a Close Combat. If you have Stealth Rock on the field (and you are Adamant), you will 2HKO Skarmory with Close Combat. Crunch will always 2hko Dusknoir, but it's only a 3HKO on Cresselia, meaning she can use Thunderwave or Reflect to stop your sweep. Extreme Speed can 2hko Infernape (it does 58.02% - 68.26%). While non super effective Bullet Punch is weaker than Extremespeed, Aerodactyl, Gengar and Weavile are destroyed by it. Stone Edge hits Gyarados (Rest Talk takes 45.8% - 53.9% with Intimidate factored, so a 2hko with Stealth Rock) and Salamence, but Ice Punch breaks down Gliscor, Lucario's number one counter.

Specs Luke

Lucario @ Choice Specs
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 HP
Nature: Modest
- Aura Sphere
- Vacucm Wave
- Hidden Power [Electric]/ [Ice]
- Shadow Ball

SpecsLuke is waiting around the corner, waiting to 2HKO the standard Blissey with a mega powerful Aura Sphere. Vaccum Wave can be put over most of the moves to pick off weaker opponents (Weavile, Scarftar, Revenging Scizor). Hidden Power Ice will take care of the Dragons, while Electric will finish off Gyarados and bulky waters such as Tentacruel. For the last slot, Shadow Ball is used for coverage. SpecsLuke is extremely powerful and is waiting in the best- fields to sweep your unsuspecting team.

Reversal

Lucario @ Salac Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Spe / 246 Atk / 12 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Reversal
- Endure/ Substitute
- Crunch
- Swords Dance

Lucario is one of the best reversalers in the game: being immune to Sandstorm is vital for this. The EVs will give you 284 HP, meaning you can Sub down 4 times, Swords Dancing as necessary to get ready to sweep. Be careful, as Stealth Rock ruins this math and won't put your HP low enough for a full- powered Reversal, which is why Endure is the main option. Crunch is to take care of Rotom-A and Cresselia, and also creates almost flawless coverage.

Other Options:

Lucario's so versatile, that it has many options to use. Mixedscarf is a notable set, and it can be used to revenge kill common threats such as Scizor, Tyranitar, Starmie, Latias and DDnite. Focus Blast is also great on the specs set if you wish to 2hko Calm Blissey, but has shaky accuracy. On physical sets, Ice Punch is great for destroying Gliscor, who would normally try to wall your attempts. However, then you lose your ability to hit Rotom-A. Metal Sound is another way to break down most walls (including Calm Blissey!), but if the opponent switches, then they are hit by an unboosted attack, not to mention Lucario's too frail to use it consistantly.

Opinion:

Lucario's versatility is amazing, with 110 attack and 115 special attack backed up by 90 base speed, it would seem to be a wonder as to why Lucario isn't in the Uber tier. Unfortunately for Lucario, it can only use four moves, meaning that it is very well counterable. But still, Lucario's ability to preform as a top revenge killer, Swords Dance sweeper and special sweeper is amazing, and it won't drop in usage anytime soon.

CB Cario

Lucario @ Choice Band
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature: Adamant / Jolly
-Close Combat
-Crunch
-Blaze kick/ Bullet Punch / Stone Edge / Iron Tail
-Extreme Speed

CB Lucario is a good physical sweeper: having more speed then Heracross is a great bonus. If you have Stealth Rock on the field (and you are Adamant), you will 2HKO Skarmory with Close Combat, while the ever common Forretress will really dislike Blaze Kick. Crunch will always 2hko Dusknoir, but it's only a 3HKO on Cresselia, meaning she can use Thunderwave or Reflect to stop your sweep. Extreme Speed can 2hko Infernape (it does 58.02% - 68.26%). While Bullet Punch is very out classed by Blaze Kick in terms of coverage, Aerodactyl, Gengar and Weavile are taken destroyed by it. Note that Extremespeed has more base power than a non-super effective Bullet Punch. Stone Edge hits Gyarados and Salamence. Iron Tail, while it may seem like a gimmick, will hit Weezing for a guareteed 2HKo and Gliscor for a possible 2Hko. The shoddy accuracy is really off-putting though (it has the same accuracy as Focus Blast for those experienced with that move), but the rewards are great with a little bit of luck.

SD Luke

Lucario @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 6 Speed
Nature: Adamant
- Swords Dance
- Extremespeed
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch / Substitute / Stone Edge

Lucario is one of the only Pokemon that get the dangerous combination of Swords Dance/ Extremespeed, and this set tries to make use of that. The last slot is for coverage and most importantly, to hit Gengar. If you choose Bullet Punch for the last slot, speed isn't necessary on this Lucario. If you can get this in (and hopefully even encourage a Blissey switch in) Swords Dance up and attempt to sweep your opponents team. This is great as a late- game sweeper, when your opponents team is nice and weak for when Lucario comes in.

Metal Sound

Lucario @ Life Orb / Lum Berry
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Speed / 252 Special Attack / 6 HP
Nature: Timid
- Aura Sphere
- Metal Sound
- Hidden Power Rock
- Dark Pulse

Lucario has many option when specially attacking and doesn't have to be holding the Choice Specs item. He has access to Metal Sound which can really screw a team over. Metal Sound essentially goes hand-and-hand with Spikes and Stealth Rock so to speak. With Swords Dance Lucario being over popular right about, the common switch ins like, Zapdos, Salamence and Gyarados take heavy Stealth Rock damage. If any decide to stay in after Metal Sound, they all get ko'd by Hidden Power Rock after Metal Sound and Stealth Rock. Aura Sphere can lay a licking on Blissey, doing as much as 83 percent to the new standard Blissey. The most Special Defense oriented Celebi even can be KO'd after Stealth Rock with Dark Pulse after Metal Sound has been used. But since most Celebi are used for Gyarados, i doubt they will be heavily ev's in Special Defense. Lastly, Cresselia takes 80 percent minimum after Metal Sound and Dark Pulse.

Specs Luke

Lucario @ Choice Specs
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 HP
Nature: Modest
- Aura Sphere
- Psychic / Vacucm Wave
- Hidden Power Ice / Dragon Pulse / Vaccum Wave
- Dark Pulse / Flash Cannon / Vaccum Wave

SpecsLuke is waiting around the corner, waiting to 2HKO the standard Blissey with a mega powerful Aura Sphere. Psychic will 1HKO Heracross and Tentacruel, and as an added bonus, Lucario outspeeds the little bug. Vaccum Wave can be put over most of the moves to pick off weaker opponents (cough Weavile cough). Hidden Power Ice (or if your unlucky Dragon Pulse) will take care of the Dragons. For the last slot, Dark Pulse is used for coverage, and Flash Cannon represents the best Lucario can do to Spritomb. SpecsLuke is extremely powerful and is waiting in the best- fields to sweep your unsuspecting team.

Reversal

Lucario @ Salac Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Spe / 248 Atk / 12 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Reversal
- Endure/ Substitute
- Crunch
- Swords Dance

Lucario is one of the best reversalers in the game: being immune to Sandstorm is vital for this. The EVs will give you 284 HP, meaning you can Sub down 4 times, Swords Dancing as necessary to get ready to sweep. Be careful, as Stealth Rock ruins this math and won't put your HP low enough for a full- powered Reversal, which is why Endure is the main option. Crunch is to take care of those damn Ghosts and Cresselia, and also forms that great attacking combination.

Mixed Cario

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 220 Speed / 38 SpA
Nature: Mild
- Close Combat / Aura Sphere
- Blaze Kick
- Psychic / Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power Ice

Many people suggested I should add a Mixcario set, but at first I refused it. I said it already did enough to its "counters" with Choice Specs. But then I remember the biggest Lucario counter was Spritomb, then Celebi, so I asked him to run the calcs. This is what we came up with. Most Spritomb and all Celebi will be 2Hkoed by Blaze Kick with these EVs and Life Orb. Speed EVs allow you to outrun the things trying to outrun Adamant Heracross. Close Combat is there to hit Blissey and Tyranitar harder than Aura Sphere, Blaze Kick hits Skarm for a 3Hko while Skarm takes it like a girl and can't do anything back (Aura Sphere is a 2Hko on Skarm). Psychic over Dark Pulse for Tentacruel, Heracross and Gengar while Hidden Power Ice takes Zapdos, Salamence and Garchomp out. This set will not be able to take Tentacruel out, so be sure it is out of the way before you set this up. Props for Neolight helping me come up with this.

Ipl's Lucario
(Lucario) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stone Edge

A brandnew Lucario set, works wonders. Beats all Lucario's normal counters except Celebi/Spiritomb/Cress but still has the power to sweep trough teams.
