Anyone on SS speak more than one language? I personally am bilingual (English and French) and have basic knowledge of German. I also am going to be taking a course in Japanese once I get to college. What about my fellow SS members?

Au revoir*... You might want to brush up a bit.

Bonjour* and yes you're correct the closest translation to "Hello" would be "Salut" which is a word that can also be used as a farewell.

Since Dutch is my native language, I speak Dutch fluently. I also speak German and Spanish quite well, and I know basic French. I'd actually love to learn some other languages, such as Japanese and Turkish, just because they're cool languages and out of curiosity.

I took Mandarin Chinese for 3 years. I have my final exam in 2 weeks. I'm probably as fluent as a holiday maker.

I can speak Swedish and English fluently, I'm studying Spanish and hopefully Japanese or Chinese later on, I'am only 14 years old at the moment so there is not much choices for me.

I obviously know English. I know 9R German (starting out stuff) so I'll be taking 10R in the fall. And like Spitfire had said I plan to take a Japanese course in College. But I also have DVDs my cousin lent me that I haven't touched. There are three and they help me learn a little Japanese.

I actually have a Rosetta Stone (only lesson one) for Mandarin somewhere, maybe I should check it out...

Also Allo is hello on the phone!

That is Hallo* since h is not only a vowel in French but it is silent.

It's interesting because in my childhood I was always told German (my mother tongue) would keep getting more unimportant around the world, but it seems there are many people here that learn it in school. I personally learn English and Latin in school. I know English pretty good already (as you can see), but I've only learned Latin for one year and still haven't learned the most part of the Latin grammar (even tough many parts are very similar to German grammar).

That's also something I noticed. Because Dutch is closely related to both English and German, Dutchies can always learn those languages incredibly easily. I thought globally speaking the ability to speak German would be rare, but it seems many people speak it.

I speak English as a first language, and I'm learning Spanish at school (I'm on my third year, so I'm not fluent in it). There was also a point in time where my mom tried to teach me Tagalog, but I forgot most of what she taught me and only remember certain words and phrases.

I can only speak English fluently, but I have sung songs in many different languages, including Hawaiian, Italian, German, Spanish, some sort of African language, a type of Sweedish language(?), etc.
I've also taken Spanish classes and have a enough experience in Japanese to know how to read Hiragana and Katakana.

I obviously know English, but I also have a basic understanding of Spanish. Although I don't truly know any other languages, I can use a lot of words from them to at least carry a conversation - some German and a lot of Japanese.

Yes, they've done it before. Although when I was a mod it tended to be Xpl who did the prank calling.

Well Singlish is English plus Chinese plus Malay plus some Chinese dialects. It depends who I'm talking to as I can switch between my Singlish mode and the proper mode comfortably.

Also random fact here. Learning another language actually has some health benefits such as helping to keep away dementia later in life.

It's only populated in China depending on where you go. If you go to the western part of China where there are no cities you'll find hardly anyone. Also the other problems are mostly based around the population centers.

Obviously I can speak English fluently. Since I am Filipino (on both my parent's sides), Filipino was supposed to be my 2nd language (though my mother speaks tagalog), I failed to learn it while I was 6, even though nowadays, I can teach it to myself since the learning discs are sitting on my table, but I'm too lazy to. Turkish is my sorta 2nd language (dang school curriculum!) and I know quite a bit of Japanese. I'm a sad excuse for a Filipino . . . T_T

I do, but I don't say that language so frequently. Mostly, I'm a English person (which also I'm fluently). I also speak Spanish (kinda) because of my school,(I am also taking it next year). Lastly, I can speak (very little bit of) Tagalog, because I was born in Philippines. I am about to learn to speak my Tagalog word as a little kid, but I almost forgot it since I immigrated to America.
