View Full Version : Do you make it a goal to complete the national pokedex?

So, the original objective in Pokemon is to catch every Pokemon out there. While it is very hard to do especially now that there is over 600 Pokemon, do you still attempt to catch them all?

I honestly stopped trying to complete the national pokedex in 4th gen because it just got out of hand with all of the new Pokemon. I would like to catch them all, so maybe in B/W 2 I'll try again.

I know most people don't, but I do. I also do it the Jish-inspired way: only Pokéballs and no trade-abusing (EDIT: And I catch one of each Pokémon). It's more rewarding that way.
I recently got back to White after a very long break and am halfway through the Kanto Dex. I need to find my Soul Silver to finish it. =/

No way. I find it a complete waste of time since I've never cared about the pokedex in the slightest.

^ This. I'm way too impatient to complete the pokedex. Its so much work. And there are some unobtainable legendaries. So there is now way in hell you can do it without hacking/Action Replay.

Like everyone said. Even through I would like to catch all of the pokemon. But.....
Completing the National Pokedex the legit way is impossible to catch them all in less than a month or even a week or years. You could use Cheat codes as an alternative from Action Replay but it will be not legit. This pretty much explain it by above posters. Plus there are some legendary pokemon wasn't distributed just yet soon.

The answer is No.

Lolno, The only time I have was when I used an Action Replay and got all the pokemon on my Pokemon White PokeDex. I usually don't care at all whatsoever.

Like everyone said, it's too much work and usually not legally possible. I have never once completed a National Pokédex and I probably never will.

I do make it my goal to catch all Pokemon. The first time I did so was in Pokemon Pearl. I was trading and migrating and all that good stuff. There was only 2 Pokemon I had to cheat to get and that was Shaymin and Celebi.

I don't. I'm never going to get some of the legendaries and I'm just not patient enough to try.

Only in Black and white.

It was too easy, cuz I traded all the Pokemon I ever owned in my previous games there, and restarted them all to get more and more...

I completed it like that. And got all the event Pokemon off the GTS.

I like the way you're goin already on this forum, Flubby.

+rep for you! Keep it up!

No, it's a complete waste of time that you benefit from nothing if you it anyway. Not even bragging right of doing it the legit way will make you look cool, you'll be frowned upon for doing something so incredibly pointless.

I would have to say no, since it takes away time that I could be spending doing other video games.

I answered yes because sometimes I try tocomplete it.

While I'm not interested in completing the Pokedex, I do like training them all. I try to give as many Pokemon I can a shot at in-game and thanks to that, I'm pretty experienced about all sorts of Pokemon. With all of the games I have, I can probably do it outside of some unobtainables, but the reward is never enticing enough for me.

National Pokedex?
So much effort. But when you've done it once it's kind of just a chore of trading. I have completed the Unova Pokedex legitimately.

I made it a goal in Pokemon Red, but I used cheats to get Pokemon exclusive to Blue and Yellow. I don't have another friend to trade with, unfortunately. :(

I don't really care I usually just grab the ones that I want and pool them altogether in one game.

No, I usually just like to play these Pokemon games for the fun of it.

My goal is to, but I don't want to do it right away. I would rather much do it over time, because I would waste too much time at one time if I were to do so.

No But in BW2, If I complete it I get something cool. So count me in!

Uzi
07-20-2012, 06:21 PM
Can't do it.

I've never caught the Regi Trio so it's impossible for me to even try to complete it. There's the thing in BW2 which makes it ALRIGHT to complete it but it's not really needed. I can normally fill up the Kanto Dex though. Hoenn/Johto will never get full in my book. I only got the Johto starters by asking around on Marriland's channel in like 2008.

In my old Diamond game I completed the National Dex, but then I lost it a few months after and could never find it again. I haven't really tried as of recently since it's become too much of a pain with my touch screen being screwed up.

No, I do not. I think the only game in which I actually did complete the National Pokedex was on Pokemon Diamond. I guess it was because that's the game that I have all of my good Pokemon on. I still have not deleted the save file. xD

Not really. There are times where I try and attempt it but fail miserably.

6 years ago I'd either be on Gamefaqs or buying the latest issue of Gamemaster for the included cheatbook which told me everything about Pokemon. Gosh I loved those things.

No, I am a lazy person, I do try to complete at least the Normal Pokedex

Pokemon73

no just because it is too hard to do in the later games

Dragonite

Somewhere along the line, I decided to complete the National Dex in 5th generation (currently 630/649). Despite having a ridiculous amount of Pokemon to catch, I think completing the thing is easier now than it was in earlier generations, between wireless communications and the Dream World.

xBlackthornWolfx
11-29-2012, 07:30 PM
It was never a big deal to me, and I never saw a point. The only time I ever put in an effort to catch more pokemon than I was going to use was in first gen, where you got rewards for catching a certain amount of pokemon. In Firered/Leafgreen anyway, can't remember exactly if that was in the original games. But yeah. Maybe some day I'll try, but with the growing number of pokemon I honestly doubt I will

Clairvoya
11-29-2012, 08:58 PM
Sort of do. I just get all the Pokemon I can catch or trade for. So I don't get event legendaries. I just try to catch a lot of them, but catching all of them seems like a lot of work.

Merga
11-29-2012, 09:13 PM
No, it takes too much time, I'm lazy, and I want to play the ingame portion again. I'm not really into completing any Pokedex. There really isn't a reward except for (literally) a gold star. Not worth it.

Clairvoya
11-29-2012, 09:19 PM
^ There are awards in the new games. While I can't remember all of them, one is the Shiny Charm, an item that makes shiny Pokemon appear more often.

Leafeon
11-29-2012, 09:25 PM
Heck yeah! I never finish cause I never get to far. I always wanted a shiny charm though. But completing the pokedex makes me feel smarter for some reason I can't explain....=3

Getting there!

Yes, I know that Honchkrow and Mawile are out of order and that there is no gap for Gen V.

Curse my stupid rules that thankfully aren't as stupid as the ones I used in White.

Grottoes are the absolute worst, by the way. : (

I tried in Pokemon Red, it didn't work, so I shall try in Yellow. Other than those two games, I have not. I refuse to cheat to get Pokemon, too.

X!!
12-07-2012, 04:07 PM
I don't. The game doesn't even reward you with anything useful for completing the National Pokedex (Well, except for B2/W2, I guess). I honestly don't care about completing my National Pokedex. It's just a waste of my time.

I tried to when I was like...10 and pokemon pearl came out. But I didnt know that there were almost 500 pokemon at that time, so I gave up on around 300

Kyoits
02-24-2013, 04:49 AM
I've only done it in FireRed and it took forever and that's why I never do it again. It was fun around the middle but the real pain was getting the LeafGreen exclusives because none of my friends had the game so I had to wait until one of them got it. But I almost gave up but if I thought that if I got this far that I would finish what I started.

No, it's hard enough to get all the pokemon in Red and Blue. In Black and White, its nearly IMPOSSIBLE!! Also, I don't think there is enough space in the PC for all 600.

24 boxes, each containing 30 Pokémon equals 720 spaces. Oh, and there are 649 Pokémon.
Also, it's arguably easier in Gen V because you're not stuck with awful Gen I mechanics and can just cheat and trade for 'em all.
