View Full Version : .gif Signature Problem

A few members on this forum have .gif signatures, and I have just recently encountered a problem with them. Whenever I scroll through a thread and see a .gif signature, it works just fine. But when I scroll above or under it so that I can't see it anymore, then scroll back to it, the animation freezes. The only way for me to get it to work again is to highlight the .gif. But even then, the animation will freeze again if I scroll past it. I don't know if this is a problem with my computer or not, because sites that are filled with .gifs, like Tumblr, work just fine. If this is a problem with the site, please fix it soon. Otherwise, I'll just keep seeing this on Uzi's signature over and over again: http://puu.sh/19P3R

Here's a video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_Un7h0Bvcc&feature=youtu.be

Would you mind posting your computer specs as well as the browser you're using?

It actually.... Isn't her computer. I'm getting this as well.

My guess is that our sever load is simply high at the moment. I would confirm this myself, but I may or may not have forgotten the password to log in to the database. >.>

I noticed the site was a bit slow at points last night. If that's the case, the best we can do is wait and the problem should resolve itself in the next couple of days. Otherwise, I'll have to yell at Eyan.

Are you using Chrome as well? I am using FireFox and I have no issue with it. Also it isn't so much the server once you embed that image your browser goes off-site to find it and deliver the data to you and once you have all of the frames of a gif loaded it should run very smoothly unless your computer is stuttering (hence why when you first see a gif it goes very slowly). This may just be an issue in the latest version of Chrome.

Edit: Just opened this webpage in Chrome and got the bug, so I'm guessing it's a version bug with Chrome.

This is interesting. I do not get the problem in Firefox either, which means it is Chrome based. However, this error only occurs on this site for me. I don't have problems with GIF freezing on any other sites. I'll keep an eye open, but I don't know if there's much we can do.

OT: I am currently using chrome, and it doesn't seem to happen to me doing the exact same thing Ch33se is doing in that video. Also, could it possibly have to do with the insane amount of tabs Ch33se has open?

I am pretty sure I have a lot more tabs open than Ch33se, and the problem doesn't seem to appear at my PC. I tested it with both Firefox and Chrome.

I only had one tab open when I tested it.

It isn't the tabs, Patriot. I used to have more tabs than that, and the freezing glitch didn't happen.

(hence why when you first see a gif it goes very slowly)

That's not my computer, browser, or the gif. It was just a Fraps issue.

You guys are all suckers for using Chrome. IE never has problems with this.

Although, the .gifs do slow down a bit each time I see one. This has happened to me before, but it resolved itself the next day. :I So maybe it'll just resolve itself.

The slow down is because the .gifs are big. Especially the ones that I make, because they are around 15MB.

Here's why IE is terrible:
Low compatibility with ANYTHING AT ALL. You can't do anything to make it better.
Lowest security on the planet. Probably has more holes than swiss cheese in its security.
Toolbars. That's literally all you can add to it, toolbars. All of which just clutter it and slow it down.
Slow as all hell. Loading pages takes a good 20 seconds if it has a lot of images, while other browsers could load it within 5 or less.
"These things don't happen on IE" wrong. They do happen yet you just haven't experienced it. I can assure you I've had more issues with IE than any browser ever.
IE is the default browser for windows. Aka, it is literally just garbage Microsoft put on their computers to get a browser on. They might as well set it up to say "Welcome to IE! Please choose your new browser:"

It's even funnier because Microsoft have started advertising the browser that comes installed on all of their computers.
It's not working, either.

Google Chrome will always be my favorite browser to use. I used IE way too long, so I personally went to Google Chrome over a year ago.
