Yo!

So recently, I've really gotten into SAO. For those of you that don't know, it's Sword Art Online. It's fairly popular.

The main reason why I like SAO so much is because the combat is just so... satisfying to look at. I'm really interested in this kind of anime, and would like to know your favourite anime that is primarily based on fighting. Mainly because I want more to watch. There are only three of these I know of at the moment;

Sword Art Online (Yes, I know it's not just fighting within the plot, but it does play a major role in the anime.)
Berserk
Hellsing

So basically, I'd like to know of more Anime that have all this. Because I dislike anime that doesn't have any fighting in it.
Also, screw Naruto and Bleach. I really don't want to watch these things.

Suggestions?

One "Fighting" anime I would recommend is Mobile Fighter G Gundam. While I have never watched it myself, I have heard that it is pretty good.

Ooh, that pretty hard to recommend. I seldom watch anime with action.

Pfhhhh, Shakugan no Shana. First season has a good bit of action and that's all I remember. Ohh, Reeeedddd . . .

"Shakugan no Shana" you say?
Could you tell me a little about it? Just a short description of the show in general.

Shakugan no Shana is basically Flame Haze vs. Tomogaras. The first and second seasons have a fair bit of action, but the third season has a LOT. You can ask Moderator Red about it, he probably knows more than I do, and I watched it some time ago.

Oh yes, I should have put this in the first post. >_<

Basically, I'm pretty much new to Anime. I've only seen Death Note before SAO. I know nothing about other anime.
But since you say there's a fair bit of action, I will look into it. Thanks!

Like I said, please don't suggest Naruto or Bleach. I'm not going to look at these no matter what.
Also, if you suggest an anime please leave a small description of it. I get absolutely no information on what you are suggesting by just giving me the name. I'd much rather take the info from someone here than googling it.

This and the other post by you has made it fairly obvious to me that you do NOT know what animes are good, and what animes are crap. Personally, i tried watching sengoku basara, and it is currently the only anime i have ever seen that i dropped. Its not that good and i wouldnt reccomend it.

Some good animes i wuld suggest would be
1. Ao No Exorcist (Blue Exorcist)

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager possessing abnormal strength and endurance who, along with his younger twin brother Yukio, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto. One day, Rin learns that he is the son of Satan, the strongest of all demons. Witnessing Shiro dying to protect him, Rin ends up doing what his guardian asked him never to do: draw the demon-slaying blade Kurikara, which restrains his demonic powers, from its scabbard. From that moment on, Rin not only gains permanent demonic features like fangs, pointed ears, fiery "horns" and a tail, but also the power to ignite himself into blue flames that can destroy almost anything they touch.

At Fujimoto's funeral, Rin has an encounter with Fujimoto's friend Mephisto Pheles, who agrees with Rin's wish to become an Exorcist like his guardian to become stronger and to defeat Satan. Rin enrolls at the prestigious True Cross Academy, which is actually the Japanese branch of an international organization dedicated to protect the human realm, Assiah, from demons and other creatures from the demon realm, Gehenna. Rin takes part in a special Exorcist course, the existence of which is known only by a few. Much to his surprise, he finds that his brother Yukio is already a veteran Exorcist and will be one of his teachers. ~wikipedia

2.Accel World (because its written by the same person who wrote SAO)

(My description) Its an anime set in the future where everyone has a "neuro-linker" and the main character discovers a virtual world called the "accelerated world" where people pair up and fight in duels to earn points and eventually level up to the impossible level 10.

Its a fighting anime that is probably exactly what youre looking for.

3.Shakugan no shana

I suggested this one because it is one of the only animes red will watch, and back during the old anime movie night on the other forum we were on, we streamed the shakugan no shana movie and from the 10 minutes i saw it fits what you're looking for

That first one you suggested, Ao No Exorcist seems really interesting. I really like when there's monsters and combat involved. This seems to be something I'll really enjoy.

As for Shakugan no Shana, both of you have suggested it, so I guess this is a must-watch on the list.

Thanks for your suggestions!

i nominate the greatest anime of all time jojo's bizarre adventure.

read the manga too. if you don't read the manga you suck.

jjba parts 1 and 2 are filled with so much testosterone every character in the following parts slowly becomes a woman. especially in stone ocean when the main character actually is a girl.

don't watch the JJBA OVAs, just watch the new TV anime which has like 3 eps out or something.

I'd recommend DBZ. I just really like the story and fights. Pokemon is ok, but only the major fights are fun to watch in my opinion.

I was affirming shana because it is a good anime, and people usually listen when multiple people suggest something.

ALSO, if you don't really watch anime and you've only seen DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon, and/or Bakugan, you have barely been exposed to the world of anime, and i feel that you cannot really say you know a sufficient amount of animes to be able to suggest some to people.

"I feel you cannot really say you know a sufficient amount of animes to be able to suggest to some people" you say. *Sighs* Again, memory problems. I've watched a lot, but I don't keep a log of how many I watch. Yes, there are action-type animes mixed in with the animes I've watched (and trust me, none of them are animes like Naruto) but I just don't remember. Like after I suggested "Shakugan no Shana", I remembered watching "Inuyasha".

However, I wan't to say one thing: let's just leave "who's the better otaku" to Majorasfan and Spitfire.

First of all, that comment wasnt directed at you because you have seen more animes that that,
Secondly, My level of otaku is right below spitfires if not about equal. On one site we download anime from i am about rank 75 of over 10,000, and spitty just barely makes 500. I also like live and breathe anime and i just about die if i cant watch it.

Just a small update;

I've finished Shakugan no Shana now. IT WAS AMAZING. I even shed a tear at the end. I sat through ~1700 minutes to see the final minutes of this thing. Time well spent.

Engineer in this video is basically me after finishing it.

I'm planning on watching Accel World next. Please do keep suggesting, as I need even more material to watch after that.

You're watching Darker Than Black. You don't need to know what it's about. Just watch it.

SAO action is pretty lacking tbh its more of setting porn than anything else. Plus gary stue with hot waifu, always helps.

Seconding Darker than Black, it's amazing if you like action.

The Gundam series is an option if you're into mecha battling. It's pretty darn cool.

Accel RAGE is kinda annoying at times, but kuroyukihime is always worth it (Screw porky I hated that guy. All my jelly). MORE MECHA BATTLEZ

Err Fairy Tail is pretty cool. Super standard nakama stuff, but it's decent and pretty much just battles while not taking itself too seriously.

Eureka Seven is a bit all over the place at times but it was definitely worth it. Even more mecha, but plenty of action and battles that are pretty cool.

STARR DRIVAAA because its so FABULOUS (did I mention mecha?).

puella magi madoka magicaaaaa

Yeah that's pretty much all I can think of atm, might drop by again later if I come up with more.

uaheuahuehauehaueuahe so many suggestions. THANKS.
Not related to fighting though, but I've finished Clannad now. Both seasons.

Also @Zach&Qwerty, Darker than Black was kinda boring. I stopped watching it after around 9 episodes, and basically just went over to Clannad.

ALSO, you are free to suggest visual novels!! I started reading Higurashi recently, and so far it's good.

Visual Novels? Fate/Stay Night for sure. It's definitely a good one.. and anything made by KEY is in my recommendations. I'm currently also reading Higurashi, so yeah. xD

And you finished BOTH seasons of Clannad already? Oh wow.. message me your thoughts on After Story on Skype.

I hope you don't mind me recommending, but; Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Brotherhood is one of my favourite action anime of all time. The characters and plot are/is so intricate. Not to mention this series actually follows the manga. I grew so attached to the characters I thought it was unhealthy. ;;

BRAVE10, as well, if you're interested in shinobi, samurai, and characters of that nature. Or, well, historical anime. ;; v ;;

Update!

I recently finished Angel Beats! and it was truly amazing. Especially the comedy involved. For once, it's not really the fights that got me to like it.
Right now I'm watching TTGL. It's pretty decent so far.

Has any of you seen "Zero no Tsukaima?" If so, please tell me your thoughts. I've heard it's supposed to be something similar to Shakugan no Shana, and if it is, I'm almost 100% certain I'll enjoy it.

I've seen it. The first season is good, but after that, it gets very perverted, especially in season 3. Oh, but don't let that stop you from watching it. It has a lot of good action, especially towards the end of of each season.

Edit: You should see To Aru Majutsu no Index and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. It's the best anime I've seen to date, and I watched it a long time ago. Both Index and Railgun have a lot of good action in them. I suggest that you watch Index first 'cause Railgun is a spinoff.
