It is time. People do this with Pokemon all the time, so I'm doing it with Hector's Hard Mode in Fire Emblem. I like this because it actually makes your decisions matter; I can't just save state or restart the chapter when I mess up. It's as if it were a real war. War cannot always be won, although I will try. Every choice is important when people's lives are on the line.

Fire Emblem Nuzlocke Rules:
-You may not restart a chapter or go back under any circumstances. If a unit dies, you must continue the chapter.
-If a Lord dies or you get a Game Over in any other way, your challenge immediately ends as a failure. There are no exceptions.
-Any sort of RNG abuse, cheat codes, or save stating is not allowed.

Everything else is fair game, but you may set more restrictions upon yourself if you'd like. Remember, the point of the nuzlocke is for it to be an intense challenge where you think more carefully about your choices. Due to the nature of Fire Emblem, there is a high chance you may not win. There will be some instances where the game is sheer dumb luck; it's a part of the game and you have to deal with it.

Chapter Log:

1: Welp. Lyn got Strength. That's all I can ask for.

2: Nothing special. I'm not letting Lyn fight outside of the forest because I want to keep her safe.

3: Sain's first growth was a bit better than Kent's. I'm definetely going to run one of them in this nuzlocke since I can promote them in Lyn's Tale.

4: Hmm... Florina and Wil. I think it's definitely worth investing in a Pegasus Knight in this run, so I may give her some experience to see how she turns out. Fiora and Farina are also great options, though. Kent has been getting more experience than Sain simply because the sword is more useful than the lance right now.

5: Yeah using Kent over Sain. Also Florina's growths suck. Lyn has been getting resistance almost every level though. :3

6: SERRA. Must... Resist.... Boss... Abuse...
Level 8 Kent by the end of this chapter. I pretty much stopped using everyone besides Florina, Kent, and Lyn. They call this a hard mode.

7: Matthew. He's going to be crucial to my Hector's Hard Mode, so I need to baby him as much as I can. I'm torn on whether to use the Angelic Robe on Matthew or Lyn. Ultimately I'm going to go with Lyn, because I lose the whole challenge if she dies.

7x: Nils Nils Revolution (For 19xx, although I'm unsure if I'll actually be able to do it, since it's basically sheer dumb luck on if you can kill Kishuna or not).

8: I made Kent solo it for fun.

9: Easy Chapter, meh.

10: Boss abuse hell. Wanted to make sure I was ready... Took like 3 hours. I kept going until I got tired/felt bad/was running low on items.

Stats of people I care about at the end of Lyn's Tale:

http://puu.sh/2axqL
http://puu.sh/2axu1
http://puu.sh/2axuk
http://puu.sh/2axuH
http://puu.sh/2axuY

Observations:
-Matthew has nice defense.
-Slightly above average Lyn.
-Average Kent.
-Damn this Florina is going to max STR. Very lucky. Note that I did give her the Energy Ring though. I'm very happy with this Florina.
-Bizarre Serra... She has unusually high Def and good Skl, but is lacking in Luck and Resistance.

Ultimately, I'm happy. Since Lyn's mode is a snooze fest, the other logs will be more detailed. I didn't even lose a single unit. I'm probably going to get very attached to my units and take things slowly from now on to do the best that I can.

Wish me luck! ^_^

amir what the hell did you do

Seems fun though, looking forward to more of this. Hopefully this won't go like Dabootel's FE8 one where he got Eirika killed stupidly after killing Morva.

To elaborate on what Ice said, I had beaten Chapter 20, was abusing reinforcements, left Eir unhealed and a Gargoyle got her. :/

Good luck, cheater.

Good luck. Eliwood won't last long.

11: I should have not have tried to fight the units in the south of the map. Even a level 19 Matthew can't handle this. Luckily I got creative and stole a vulenary from a Knight so Matthew could tank while Hector got the kills. I wanted to steal the lockpick as well, but it wasn't optimal given my situation. At least I made the theif pick the lock for me. Stole a Vulenary from the boss and the archer at the top of the map as well, you can never be too careful. I let Hector have as much experience as possible... He got mixed growths.

http://puu.sh/2azmJ

12: Yeouch, I don't remember there being so many Pegasus Knights on this chapter. I think I'm getting sick (mainly from looking at Eliwood's base stats).

It's nice to see Serra again though (Dorcas not so much.... Kind of wishing I would have used him in Lyn's).

Sending Marcus up to get the Secret Book... I'm going to try to get as much experience for my weaklings as I can before I have to rely on him.

Lowen got a lucky crit on the enemy phase... Which resulted in another enemy being able to attack him. He ended up living by 2 HP.

The second turn took like 20 minutes of planning. Hector missed at 70, and that messed me up. I never thought I'd be using Serra to tank for Hector.

I'm starting to realize that it's worth me using Marcus. He at least gets experience unlike Matthew. I'm so glad these enemies are wasting their time trying to kill Matthew though. I ended up having to rescue Serra with Oswin since she got caught.

The boss killed himself against Marcus. What a scary chapter... I gotta get my Spanish homework done.

But... I think I learned that I need to depend on Marcus. "Efficiency" is key in this gameplay, even if I fall behind in speed.

I'd say Marcus is pretty much essential this run. Jeigans are always nice on harder difficulties but if you can't reset, you kind of need someone that you know you can throw into almost any sticky situation if necessary. (Well, in your case, I guess your Kent will be 20/2 upon return so he'll probably take over).

13: FIRST BLOOD. I wasn't paying attention and in my scramble to recruit Guy, Rebecca randomly got killed. Bartre eventually died as well because I was dumb and didn't rescue him with Oswin. Gonna be bold and accept the sidequest; the more experience the better!

13x: I played this verrrrry safely. Oswin and Marcus tanked the top half of the map, and I unequipped my level 20 Matthew and just made the entire bottom half of the map waste time attacking him. Everyone else just kind of stood there. I let the village fall because I couldn't afford to send Marcus out there.

14: YSDOIFJSDOJF I can finally stop putting Eliwood on! I feel badly because it's my first time not training a lord, but I feel that he is too much of a liability for me, and even when he promotes he will only be just another paladin. Oswin is basically invincible at this point, although I have found that Marcus can take severe beatings now. I'm going to have to keep a vulenary on him at all times. The chapter was pretty easy to win, but I'm running very low on Wolf Beil now. From here on out I will only use it in case of emergencies. I was able to get Priscilla and Erk fairly easily (although Erk almost killed himself). Hector is starting to become a huge power as well. Merlinus didn't survive this chapter, but I kind of don't care.

(Note: Not going to post Matthew's stats from here on out even though he is one of the most important and helpful members of my team. Chances are he will not be able to promote [until the Limstella chapter, at least]).

i see you got bored of pokemon nuzlockes? ;D

Zachgoose
03-04-2013, 04:37 PM
Yep. :3

15: 9/11 of my remaining units are available here. I'm going to leave behind Eliwood for obvious reasons. My other choice of unit to bench was Erk; he is just too fragile to warrant his use.

Throughout the chapter, I found that my Hector has become just as invincible as Oswin. :3

Marcus actually almost died here. He lived by 4 HP. Thank goodness I'm running Priscilla and Serra. Hector easily killed the boss to pick up the free Dragonshield.

16: OH HOW I'VE MISSED YOU LYN. And by Lyn I mean Florina and Kent.

I.... Do not feel comfortable bringing Priscilla in this chapter for some odd reason, so I'm going to leave her behind. Serra should serve me well enough, since she's so tanky (I mean for a healer).

I'm going to place faith in Guy and hope he'll stay with me throughout the entire journey. Therefore, I am giving him the Dragonshield.

Matthew scored a free Lockpick off of the enemy Theif! He took a Vulenary, but I think the trade was worth it.

I'm starting to let other units have exp instead of Hector. I want Hector to hit 20 as late as possible.

Rage. I was using this chapter to build supports on characters, and I accidentally made Matthew support with Hector. Now Hector has Oswin C, Serra C, and Matthew C... Oh well.

Merlinus died again. But once again, it is not worth me endangering my other units' lives to protect him.

Also, Oswin is now a level 18. I believe you get a Knight's Crest in the next chapter, so I'll provide him with it. He is my best unit, after all.

Noooooo. You're going to miss Karla! How could you?

inb4 you miss at least one of Raven, Lucius and Canas.

Zachgoose

17: Bringing Oswin in this chapter was a bad idea. He's just getting blown behind...

I was surprisingly able to pick up Raven with no problems. Wooo.

OH MY GOD RAVEN MISSED AT 90%. HE MISSED AT 90%. **** **** **** **** ****. I lost him. :/
Which means no Lucius too. You were right, Bottle.

God damn. Raven was such an important unit as well (and I would have liked Lucius's Light tome for Serra).

RAVEEEEEN! RAAAAAVVEEEEEN! AS DKFL;ASDFJASD.ASDFASASASDFSAD.

MY HEART HURTS! I NEEDED HIM! :((((((

Oh well. I must continue.

Good night, sweet prince.

At least there was one good thing that happened in this chapter.
http://puu.sh/2c29t

I also made sure that exactly one soldier lived, so I get the extra mine. I lost my first one when Rebecca died. *accepts sidequest*

Yeek, well I wanted thrills with this play through, and that's what I got. >.<

Ice

That's why Raven is the best unit ever!

On the bright side, now you can use Cobalion!

Dabottle

Unless he ends up with Karel. xD
At least he's probably going Jerme's route, due to Serra level capping in Lyn Mode.
It's basically Guy versus Prissy, so Guy should win unless he arena abooses or something, which I doubt he'll do much of considering the circumstances.

Update!!

17x: Wow. This chapter is way easier than it had always been in the past. You just need to let the enemies come to you! I formed a blockade with Oswin and Kent, while Guy solo'd the top part of the map. I was stupid and let Guy get attacked by a Killer Bow Archer with 25 Crit chance, but thankfully it didn't get the critical hit.

I accidentally didn't deploy Merlinus, but that really doesn't matter.

Guy and Prissy now have rank B support. I sent Guy to the arena twice before the arena sent up a Wyvren Rider. I got scared and decided not to do it anymore.

http://puu.sh/2h0N1
http://puu.sh/2h0Pt
http://puu.sh/2h0NR

18: The chapters are starting to look verrrry intimidating. I'm not going to run weak units like Lowen. I'd rather use maxed out units like my level 20 Matthew and Florina just to be safe. The only exception is Prissy, because it is important that I train her as much as I can. She also has Rank B support while Guy. If Prissy is in danger, I can simply rescue her with my invincible to every sort of physical damage Oswin.

Hector ended up being Prissy's permanent bodyguard. I guess they work well together, because they can help eachother out and they are both exceedingly important to me.

Guy is also starting to kick massive ***. He has maxed out wind support (Matthew A Prissy B), so he has around a 35% crit chance just from using an Iron Sword. Who needs Raven? :3

AND THE PEGASUS KNIGHT IN THIS CHAPTER HAS AN ELYSIAN WHIP SO I CAN FINALLY PROMOTE MY FLORINA. Game is now easy.

Operation steal Guiding Ring from the boss was a huge success. Since his Luna lets him do true damage and he has a 26% crit chance, I'm not going to risk fighting him. I also decided to stock up on Javelins, as Florina is a phenomenal mage killer.

The chapter was relatively easy though. Prissy got picked on by an archer, but everything else turned out fine.

http://puu.sh/2h1Vj
http://puu.sh/2h1W1
http://puu.sh/2h1WE

Thoughts at the moment based on current units I can will bring chapter 19:

1. Hector- He hasn't been getting to fight very much anymore, but that's fine. He'll certainly have time to hit level 20 before he promotes. Just have to keep him safe and this challenge seems winnable.

2. Oswin- My lord and savior. He is essentially immune to all damage besides strong magic tombs and items that are effective against Knights. He really is the true star that's keeping me in this game.

3. Guy - HHM Guy bonuses are lovely. Really, he's a much better version of Lyn, and he isn't a risk to use. I know I can depend on him and was glad to put my faith within him. He's turning out great.

4.Priscilla - Still more of a burden and inferior to Serra than anything else, but she will shine in due time.

5. Kent- My second savior. He's nearly impossible to kill and is incredibly reliable.

6. Florina - She's a Falcoknight now and this Florina had exceptional growths. Looking forward to using her. I need to keep her around, because Cog of Destiny is probably my most hated chapter in the game and she tends to obliterate that map.

7.Marcus- Wow his growths have been horrible. I'm assuming this is normal, though. Regardless, he's a huge asset to my team and really a slightly inferior version of Kent.

8. Matthew- Great for emergency situations and his stealing abilities. That's about it. He's level 20 and since Jaffar can get killed so easily chances are I won't be able to promote him. And that late in the game assassins are outclassed anyway and Guy will be far more useful and higher leveled.

9. Lowen- Uhh... Sorry buddy. Looks like I'm benching you. You're only level 8 and you're starting to feel really weak. I'll try training you when I can and maybe promote you eventually, but I'm not going to be fighting with you too much anymore.

10. Serra- Now that she's promoted I finally have a magic user on my team. Hopefully she'll be amazing. Healing is just so important in this run that I'm glad I have her.

11. Dorcas- See: Lowen but with even lower stats. He's seriously obsolete since Paladins can use axes in FE7.

12. Canas- Chances are you're going to die, kid. There's an abundance of Guiding Rings in this game, so I suppose I'll give you a shot. Your range could potentially be helpful. Plus, I'd much rather run you than put on my level 20 Lyn and risk losing her.

I think I'm doing well in this nuzlocke. I had a rough start, but things are seeming easy right now. (Famous last words)

Bump because I actually completed a no reset run of Sacred Stones Hard Mode (THIS TIME I DIDN'T CHEAT GUYS). It actually felt really rewarding.

http://puu.sh/6zkwk.png

Final team. Everyone below Marisa was irrelevant and just happened to be lucky enough not to die. I recruited every character available (besides Syrene who died before I could and Cormag because I accidentally finished the chapter before he spawned).

Fun things:
Seth got crit by a Devil Axe
Eirika got turned to stone at 9% hit rate
I literally killed Ross on purpose.
Ewan is easy to train with intense boss abuse.
Long range magic OP.

My FE8 no reset run was great.
Until I ****ing forgot to heal Eirika while grinding in Chapter 20. SHE WAS ON THE SEIZE POINT.
I eventually redid, just for the sake of finishing it off and lost quite a few more people in Chapter 20.

I also just finished an FE8 0% growths run!

Yeah, Matthew is one of my favorite characters in FE7. He gets a lot of screen time for a thief which is unusual in my minimal experience.
