Supporting, as many of you people know, is a mechanic in the FE series. You have to have a character near another character compatible to support. This will unlock a conversation, and will also increase your support level. Supports do different things. They can change the stats of your character, change the endings they have, and even unlock some other things (music, etc?). How? Here's an example:
In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, I will take Franz and Amelia. They are compatible to support, and are easy to be near each other (unless, SOMEONE decides to promote Amelia to a Knight/General). Amelia has a Thunder affinity http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090716155724/fireemblem/images/f/fa/GBAThunder.gif, so Franz will mostly get Critical bonuses. Franz, on the other hand, has the Light affinity http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090716155643/fireemblem/images/6/6e/GBALight.gif . Amelia will then gain offensive and defensive bonuses, as well as a couple others. This effect only happens if they are in a radius of three squares near each other. For more information on the different types of affinities and their effects, visit this page: http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Affinity
Now, the endings. Each character can have 3 different conversations with the same person, or until they run out of support uses. When two characters are supported, they are given ranks. The ranks are in A/B/C. Once two characters reach A rank, meaning they've had 3 support convos, then they might have a different ending. Take Franz and Amelia for example. Once these two reach A rank, they get married after the end of the game(assuming they both survived)! How cute! Other different endings change depending on which character is supported with.
And that was a guide for the newbies.
Now I have a question for all the players. Do you use the Support mechanic? Do you think it's a good thing?
IMO Supporting takes up too much time. I usually only do it when I'm bored or training someone while everyone else stays in one place.
