Unity Academy

[Ferrospike]

History
Unity Academy is a prestigious school that serves as a sign of unity in the Unova region. The Academy was founded far back in Unova's history when the tribes that coexisted with another. After these tribes unified, the leaders of this new nation wanted a symbol of unity. These became Nimbasa City and Castelia City. After the Neo Team Plasma incidence in the region, a school was proposed to bring the region together. This became Unity Academy. The founders of the school wanted that the students had automatic access to the Pokemon League once graduating. To appease the league a house system and battle system was implemented. Students would be in separate houses, facing another in monthly battle tournaments. Naturally, there were protest. The school decided to add programs like Breeding and other subject areas in case a student was not interested in League. They will still have to battle but they could take classes outside of battling. The rivalry between the houses has picked up in recent years, some of the houses even cheating to win the most important tournament: The Unity Cup.

2. Pokemon Battles are prohibited outside of Battle Club Tournaments, Practices, and designated Classes. (In-dorm suspension. After repeated offense, expulsion.)
3. All Students must be in their dorm by 9 o'clock (In order: 2 warnings, 1 day's worth of Detention, 2 day's worth of Detention, 1 day suspension, 3 day suspension, Expulsion)
4. All illegal activity deemed illegal by the Government of Unova results in IMMEDIATE EXPULSION.
5. Skipping School is unacceptable. (1 warning, 1 day's worth of detention, 2 day's worth of detention, 5 day's worth of detention, Suspension at teacher's discretion. )
6. Tampering or cheating during the tournament (Disqualification of tournament and probation from tournaments)

The 30th of September came faster than any of the staff of the school expected. It felt like yesterday to them when they waved the graduating students' goodbye and wished the returning students a good summer. It all felt so fresh, even though it had been several months. Now it was Sunday and all of the students had returned. The headmaster rubbed his eyes, looking over his announcements for the school. Flipping a switch, he started to speak in his regular even tones.

"Welcome Students to the newest year at Unity Academy. To all our old students, welcome back. To our new students welcome. As some of our old students might remember, tomorrow is the first day of school. This, of course, is relative. Due to sorting, the will be no classes tomorrow. Upper class students will have the chance to relax tomorrow, except those chosen by your heads of house to assist during the testing period for first years. First years will report to the gymnasium at 9 A.M. for a written exam where you will receive your first Pokemon. You will receive further instructions tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good night.

Miyoko sighed as the announcements finished. She was chose to help her head of house in the testing process for her house. She didn't mind doing it, it was just rather the fact that she was told today. Her head of house pulled her aside and just sprung that information on her. It was random and she really didn't appreciate it. She did, however, like the fact she got her second Pokemon the same day.

Patting the Deerling on her soft head, she watched her Rufflet and Deerling play with another. Laughing slightly when her Rufflet landed on the Deerling's head, she scrolled through her phone. I wonder when the others get back. I haven't seen anyone I know yet. Most of the people back are either first years or upper clansmen I don't know.

"Don't hurt Reily, Morgan. Miyoko muttered, warning her bird Pokemon not to be too rough on the deer.

Lucca had mixed feelings about the test. On the one hand, it didn't really matter what she ended up being Sorted into, though it sounded like Relic Castle was the House for people who were serious about learning. She'd much rather spend her time among people like that than among, say, Dragonspiral Tower, whose members had a reputation for valuing brawn over brains. Ultimately which dormitory you spent your free time in didn't seem to have an impact on what classes you took, however, and intuition told her that she'd be fine as long as she kept her nose out of trouble and mind on her schoolwork.

She didn't really want to admit it to herself, but she was a bit more anxious about this particular test than any she had ever taken in her life. This test was unlikely to be about things like fractions and volcanoes and prepositions that she had been used to studying for the first twelve years of her life. This world was all about creatures known as Pokémon, and Unity Academy was dedicated almost solely to furthering peoples' understanding of them; how the engineering wonders such as the Skyarrow Bridge had been built without the help of traditional schooling was anyone's guess. To compensate, she'd spent almost the entire summer reading up on the creatures, familiarizing herself with concepts such as "natures" and "Abilities." Today was the day to put all of that to practice.

"Back here again, huh?" Johan said and sighed. It wasn't that his summer had been that great, he'd gotten arrested for several minor felonies (such as stealing apples) and been assigned a parole officer for the rest of the summer. Apparently they didn't think he'd go stealing while at the academy, and they weren't wrong. The apples here were delicious. Plus there was the matter of expulsion if he did. It didn't seem like an appealing option, as annoyed as he was at returning.
He looked at the Zorua he'd been provided with, subduing the annoyance of being provided with another Dark type. Were the academy staff trying to tell him something?
"So, what's your name?" he asked, not expecting an actual answer.
"Zorua!" replied the Zorua.
"Really? I never would have guessed."
"Zo!"
"Alright," said Johan and stretched, "I'm gonna go find something interesting. You do what you want."

Chiara pouted as she held her Cubchoo and looked at her brother. Between him and Rhiannon, he was definitely the more boring one of her siblings.

“But he technically doesn't have the same name as you. He’s Toby. You’re Tobias. It’s completely different.”

“But you always call me Toby, Chi. It’s going to get stupidly confusing.”

“Rhia wouldn't complain. She would want to have a Pokemon named after her.”

“Because she's obsessed with herself,” Tobias muttered, rolling his eyes. “I’m going to look for my friends. You need to think of something else to name that thing.”

“Bye, Toby! Er, Tobias!” Chiara waved to her brother with her free hand and looked down at her Cubchoo, who was dripping snot all over her sleeve.

“...I'll call you Toby the Second. Twoby for short. Let’s go look for someone to talk to. Maybe we’ll even find Rhia somewhere.”

"ALL FIRST YEAR STUDENTS HEAD TO YOUR ASSIGNED TESTING ROOMS! ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE HELPING WITH EXAMINATION PLEASE REPORT TO YOUR ASSIGNED ROOM!"

The voice of the principal rang through the school, a sigh coming from a student here and there. One of these was Miyoko, sitting in the comfortable chair she was given. She was in charge of doing the individual interviews for each first year. The process was long but that's what her head of house like. She wondered when the first people would come. People usually showed up to Abundant Shrine last because it was a default for most people. She didn't complain, however, it meant she could play with her Pokemon in the classroom she was assigned in.

Watching her Deerling run under each desk, Miyoko patted her Rufflet that was roosting on her head.

(First years: You need to go to all houses even though you picked one already. Just to create rp stuff. Upper classmen characters are welcome to do stuff for their related house.)

Oline had her first meal of her school year. In her first year, sho loved eating at school. Before she started school at Unity, she rarely had the opportunity to eat real food. So, when she got to Unity, it was like a luxury for her to have authentically cooked meals daily. Over three years, however, the experience became routine, and less enjoyable alone.

"Ferr?"
Thyrnir (Ferroseed) noticed Oline's decreasing enjoyment in eating over the three years, which made ham concerned that Oline was still happy.

"It's fine, Thyrni~" Oline reassured.
After her meal, Oline went to the Undella Bay house to prepare to conduct sorting interviews


Olaf had been at school for a few days. He enjoyed waking up and not having to worry first thing in the morning about how to meet a daily candle sales quota. It was one thing for him to grow stronger through selling candles around a forest. It was another thing for him to finally attend school to grow stronger.

Oh, I have to do exams for all the houses. I'll start with the two least important ones. That means visiting Abundant Shrine, then Undella Bay.​

It turned out that spending the summer reading every book that had ever been written about Pokémon paid off, because Lucca found the test to be easy to the point of boring. She milled through page after page of questions regarding magical plants and animals and turned in the test with almost a half hour to go.

The hallway outside the testing room were deserted; nobody else had finished yet. The second part of the morning's instructions had been to see an older student in charge of interviewing you for your desired House, so Lucca shuffled down the corridor until she found the room labeled DESERT RESORT. She knocked on the door frame, waiting for a response.

Miyoko waved one of the candidates goodbye, writing a few notes down. Selecting a score of 8, she wondered if the girl who just interviewed with her would actually select the house. It usually came down to that. Very rarely do kids make Abundant Shrine their top choice. From her class, only two had Abundant Shrine as their top choice. Miyoko didn't even select it as her top choice. It was her second behind Desert Resort. It was odd but was happy with the Pokemon she received so she did not complain like others.

Watching the first years rushing around and eating an apple, Johan once again reminisced about his first day. He had no idea how he actually got Desert Resort as his house, but it probably had something to do with getting bored after the first test and rushing the rest of the interviews. That tended to happen when you didn't give a Rattata's behind about the results. Overall he was happy about ending up there, as what was expected of him wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

Then the house of cards collapsed. This might look like a metaphor but there was an actual house of cards that literally collapsed. Johan sighed and began picking the cards back up. He should probably return these to the club before people started attending activities. Not that anyone would know they were missing but it would probably be better to not keep them in his room.

He took another bite from his apple and then left to return them.

She didn't really have anything better to do for the rest of the morning, so Lucca decided to investigate some of the other House admissions. She didn't have any real interest in actually battling with Pokémon so the Dragonspiral Tower and Reversal Mountain were out, and she wasn't the most courageous person in the country so Undella Bay might not be the best fit, either. There was nobody in the classroom for the Abundant Shrine interview when she looked, so she decided to try out that one. She knocked on the door.

Miyoko almost fell out as she heard the knock on the door. Jumping up from the desk, she ran to the door, ignoring the sleeping Rufflet on her head. Opening the door, she gave the girl a warm smile. Thought no one would come Miyoko wanted to say but instead decided to go a different route.

"Hey there! I'm Miyoko Nishimiya, 2nd year! Nice to meet you! Err, sit anywhere you want. I'm not testing you or anything.....I'm just, uh, ask you some questions."

[Dragonite]

Somewhat dazed by the examiner's enthusiasm, Lucca took a seat in the front of the room. "I'm Lucca Snow," she offered tentatively. "I took the test for Relic Castle, but . . . finished a little early." She blinked, trying to think of where to go with this. "What do you want to know?" she finished lamely.

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko laughed awkwardly, finally removing the sleepy Rufflet from her head and cradling it in her arms. Taking a seat across from Lucca, she gave her a warm smile. "Oh nothing to weird..." she muttered. "Um, how about you tell me about what you like to do? I like to have conversations rather than interviews. It gets boring. You can ask me questions too, by the way...."

[Dragonite]

"What do I - what?" Lucca had never been through an interview before, but this was not what she pictured one being like. "What do I like to do? Reading, I suppose . . . that's all I really did over the summer." She looked across the desk at Rufflet. "You have a Pokémon? What's it like?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko nodded, giving the girl a reassuring smile. "Reading is fun. You should take some of the mythology classes. They are really interesting. " Miyoko patted her Rufflet on his head, snapping to call over her Deerling. The small grass type galloped over towards her trainer, nuzzling her head into Miyoko's lap.

"I like it. I'm not a battler but they make great friends. I have an honors dorm so I don't have a roommate. They get to roam. You probably will get that option next year seeing how smart you are."

Lucca was a bit thrown by the forwardness of Miyoko, but decided to play along with her. "I don't plan on spending much time in my dorm anyway," she mumbled, picturing the quiet, subdued atmosphere of the library as a much more ideal place to spend free time. It wasn't the long, dim, medieval hall with lots of crevices and places to hide from the curfew-enforcing librarian, but it would do the job. "A Pokémon might be nice, though." She didn't know all of the Pokémon of the world; maybe there was one that looked like a book.

Chiara hummed excitedly as she watched the first years running around. The first day of a new school year was always exciting. She just wished that Rhiannon and Tobias hadn't run off the second she had gotten distracted. They hated when she tried to introduce them to people, but how else was she going to help them make more friends? They weren't exactly the most social people in the world.

“What should we do now, Twoby?” she murmured as she rolled a Pokeball around. Blaze and Meg weren't exactly in the best of moods right now, so she couldn't bother them. Her friends had either transferred schools or weren't around.

The Cubchoo shrugged and sniffled. Chiara held him tightly and rubbed his head.
“Ooh, I know! Mimi should be interviewing people! That’ll be fun!”

She picked up Twoby and ran to the interview room as quickly as she could, apologizing as she bumped into people on the way.

“Hello, Mimi~” she sang as she reached the room and yanked the door open. She blew some hair out of her face and noticed that there was someone else in the room.“Oh. You're actually interviewing someone. That's a first.”

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko smiled again, patting both of her Pokemon's heads. "I mean, you'll get a Poke-" She stopped as the door swung open. Miyoko's voice when small as she muttered "Hey there they, Chiara. I mean, I'm a 2nd year but yeah I guess..." Turning her attention to Lucca, she motioned to Chiara.

"This is my friend, Chiara...Uh yeah...so Pokemon..." Miyoko lost her cool, slipping back into her awkward self. "N-no m-matter what h-house you j-join you'll get a Pokemon. 2nd and 4th years get another Pokemon....We also have field trips to catch Pokemon..." Miyoko looked at her feet, not sure what else to say.

[Dragonite]

Lucca stared at the room with her mouth slightly open for a few seconds. If the interview had been scripted earlier, it certainly was not now. She looked from one student to the other a few times. "If you'll excuse me, I think I'll go and see if my test has been graded yet. I'll be back," she added hastily with little intention of doing so. She stood up to leave, but her foot got caught on Miyoko's chair and she tumbled across the floor.

Chiara rocked on her feet awkwardly for a few moments before humming and walking over to the new girl who had tripped. She knelt in front of her and offered her free hand, holding on tightly to Twoby since he was trying to wiggle out of her grasp.

"Hello there! What's your name? Oh, I guess I should ask if you're okay first. So are you okay?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko jumped up from her seat, disturbing the Rufflet in her lap. Cursing herself in her head, she rushed over to Lucca. "Ah, uh, are you okay...?" Miyoko asked, crouching next to Lucca. "I'm s-so s-sorry...that was my fault...let me make i-t up for you...I'll p-put in a w-w-word for you a-at Desert Resort..." She gave the girl an unsure smile, not really sure what to do..

[Dragonite]

Lucca looked up, just barely dodging the falling Rufflet. She saw the new girl's hand and took it. "I'm fine," she said unconvincingly, pulling herself up and ignoring the throbbing paint that had erupted in one of her knees. "I - thanks, Miyoko. Miyoko, right?" She dusted herself off and looked around. The interview had been an unqualified disaster and her instinct was to flee the scene immediately, but she wasn't certain if that would make the matter better or worse.

"Sorry," she said gruffly, brushing herself off. "I'm Lucca Snow, I finished the Relic Castle test a little early and just thought I'd check out some of the other Houses before I left. Which one are you in? Do you like it?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko stooped and picked up her Rufflet. "Well, I'm in Abundant Shrine. I really do like it." Pausing, she collected her thoughts. "We are probably the friendliest of all of them. We get along with most houses...except for the two battle people. They are a pain to be around." Sighing, she pulled a chair from the desk to sit down again.

"You don't find out your test grade...you just get told if you got in or not..." Miyoko muttered, finally adding. "Nice to meet you, Lucca!"

[Dragonite]

"Abundant Shrine?" Lucca looked at the floor; if there was a chance of her tactfully leaving the conversation, it had now vacated the room. "I'm hoping to get into Relic because . . . grades . . ." She trailed off. "The Abundant Shrine wouldn't be that bad, though, I guess. Is there any rivalry between the two?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko shrugged slightly, wondering if there was some sort of rivalry between the two house. "Not really, if you would ask me. We are probably the friendliest with another. We might compete over grades but that's about it. Probably most of my friends outside if my house come from there." Pausing again, she wondered if she should inform the girl or not.

"The school pairs houses usually when it comes to classes. Abundant and Relic often get paired together because most kids who are in those houses qualified or were just short of qualifying for the other." She placed her Rufflet back on her head, hoping it won't fall down like the last time.

[Dragonite]

"That's good, at least," Lucca mumbled. She knew just from walking around campus earlier that this was not true for some of the all Houses, at least, but this girl seemed sincere. She turned over to the girl who had barged into the room just a minute ago. "What about you?" she asked cautiously, trying to sound curious. "Which House do you live in? Do you like it there?"

[Ayra]

Olaf entered Abundant Shrine. There was apparently a party, or something. "Hey," he waved to the lady who was probably overseeing the procedures, "I'm over here when you're ready." Olaf then went to sit at a desk.

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko composed herself, smiling at the new arrival. Walking over to the desk, she bowed towards the student. "Sorry, usually I don't get interviews. Most people just go to a 4th year." Pulling a chair up to the desk, she gave the boy a warm smile. "So...what do you want to get out of this school...?"

[Ayra]

"Hi. I'm Olaf. I'm at this school to become stronger. You see, before I came here, I used to sell candles, because I was paid to. If I become stronger, I don't need people to pay me to sell their product."

[Ferrospike]

"Nice to meet you, Olaf. I'm Miyoko Nishimiya." Writing down a note, she leaned slightly back in the chair. "So, if you had a choice, which house would you join and why?" She tilted her head slightly, observing the boy.

[ShaymieTehShaymin]

Chiara stood up and put Twoby down since he clearly didn't want to be held. He sniffled and hugged her leg tightly. She dusted her uniform off and smiled at Lucca. She loved meeting new people. It was one of the reasons she liked school so much.

"Me? I'm in Abundant Shrine, same as Mimi! I really like it, but I wish that my brother Andy sister had joined, too. I almost never get to see them much anymore. Anyway, I hope you end up liking the school. There's a lot of nice people here."

"I came for Dragonspiral, actually. I just decided to say hi to the other houses first."

"Nice of you to visit the other house. People usually skip us and Desert Resort." She smiled, taking another note for herself. "If you could choose any Pokemon you will get today, what would it be..?" She gave the boy an encouraging smile, curious for his answer.

Sensing that her brief interview was over, Lucca made a vague excuse about having to powder her nose and left the room. She ducked into the bathroom for a minute or so, then started making her way to the library to wait for the formal Sorting ceremony later in the day.

Lucca had always liked libraries, and Unity Academy's was no exception. It wasn't an idyllic Gothic-looking space like you might see in a movie, but the shelves were dripping with information on every subject under the sun, and then some. She threw her bag down on a table near the back of the room, pulled down a book at random and started it open.

[Ferrospike]

The head master smiled as all of the student's involved in the house process took their seat near him. Taking a step by his podium, he started to speak in calm, even tones:

"Welcome back and welcome to all the Students of Unity Academy! I would like to thank those who helped our teachers. He motioned to students like Miyoko.

"You will be called up to front by last name order. All house that accepted you will stand up and you will choose from there. Whoever you choose gives you your first Pokemon. Your house also determines your starter Pokemon not just the personality test. Let's get started. Abbott, Camden"

Miyoko wondered when she would give a person her first Pokemon. She waited her turn for a student that got accepted.

Name: Percy Johnson

House: Undella Bay because he is loyal and courageous, and always trying to do the right thing.
Personality: Percy is very much a work in progress. He worked hard to get to this point, but he's only a decent battler for one reason, his father. His father is one of the professors at the academy, and Percy has always just followed him in his shadow. (I may make an app for his dad later.). His mother is very supportive of him, and while his dad is as well, Percy really wants to grow based on his own merits. For this reason, he never uses the Pokémon his dad gave him in battle. This Pokémon was a Treecko, and he used it as a kid, but decided to stop after it had evolved into a Sceptile. He keeps Sceptile around to have fun and talk with. (Is this ok? He'd never use it in battle ever.) Simply put, he's an underdog who has all the tools he needs to succeed, but doesn't want to use them. He's basically the opposite of my other characters. (He's also pretty much a perfect student when it comes to knowledge. His problems lie in quick thinking and learning to adapt to different situations, even though he wants to become a great trainer. He'd be a perfect candidate for the teacher path, but he doesn't want to go that route.)

Olaf then left the room. He had to go to the Dragonspiral house to go get accepted. He then went to the hall to wait to confirm his acceptance.

First days of school were not Percy's favorite thing. When it came to houses, Percy really only had three options. His parents expected him to go into a more selective house, so Abundant Shrine was out of the question. It was a shame, really. If he could, Percy would not have had a problem going there at all. As for the other houses, Percy knew his dad was a professor for Dragonspiral, so he was avoiding it like the plague. That left 3 houses: Dessert Resort, Undella Bay, and Reversal Mountain. Knowing himself, Percy was sure that Dessert Resort would be the right house for him, and yet, he decided to take the tests for all three. At this point, he was debating between all three. When he had gone to take the test, he noticed that the people in Dessert Resort didn't really match up with his personality. Percy was smart and intuitive, but from what he saw, Dessert Resort was mostly made up of bookworms, and Percy wasn't one who learned through reading. When he visited Reversal Mountain, he had enjoyed his time there, but some people were a little bit too prideful. He had assumed it was just a draginspiral thing, but that wasn't the case. It so seemed a bit too elite for him. Finally, he had visited Undella Bay, where he honestly felt right at home. Everyone around there seemed like his kind of people. Out of all the tests, he felt like he had passed all 3, but he was really trying to figure out which one to pick. Luckily, he had a lot of time while he sat in the hallway to think about it.

Johnson, Percy! The head master called, pointing to the stage all of the house flags hung. Some of the students took that as a signal, getting up, each holding a Pokeball in their hand. A 5th year for Undella Bay, a 3rd year Reversal Mountain, and a 4th year for Abundant Shrine stood up under their houses' flag. One of the professors whisked Percy onto the stage, the head masters asking in a even voice "Which house do you choose, Mr. Johnson?"

Miyoko had barely been paying attention knowing none of the people who had stepped up on the stage to choose their house. A couple terrified first years picked Abundant Shrine though, making Miyoko slightly happy. At least some of them picked us. That's good.

Percy was whisked into the room by a professor and before he knew it, he had to choose his house. Luckily for him, he had gotten just enough time to make up his mind. A lot of the first years before him had chosen Abundant Shrine, which was a great decision for those undecided. Despite that, however, Percy had decided to go with "Undella Bay". He said this in a cool and collected manner, looking around for any trace of his father.

The 5th year punched the air as if achieving some victory. Waving Pery towards him, the boy said "You won't regret this, I swear. Now, here is your first Pokemon decided by are head of house, Professor Vector." The student pointed in the crowd, motioning towards a rather young man giving Percy a thumps up. The student laughed a bit, giving Percy his first Pokemon, which was in a Dive Ball.

Percy noticed the dive ball the second he was given it. "Oh yeah, it's pretty obvious that I'd get a water type from Undella Bay isn't it?" Percy laughed a bit and opened the dive ball, revealing a Mantyke. Mantyke excitedly twirled around in the air, doing loops around Percy to get his attention. Percy smiled and pet the Mantyke. "Ok, I guess I should probably name you, huh?" Percy thought about it for a bit and decided he'd be simple about it. "I'll name you Manny. Not the most exciting nickname, I know." Percy's second thought was that he needed to introduce Manny to his Sceptile, but he figured this place wasn't the greatest area to do it, being surrounded by teachers and upperclassmen would let them know he was technically breaking a school rule by having a separate pokemon, even if he would never use it in battle.

Well, it was mandatory to show up to the events so he showed up, but Johan didn't particularly care what house the new students would be in so he decided to sleep through the whole thing. His new Zorua came in handy, its Illusion ability wasn't that powerful but it was enough to make him seem awake at a glance. His Sandile was under his chair, ready to bite at his ankles if anything interesting happened, but for now it was naptime.

Personality: Anita's a bit of a ditz, using the word "like" about five times per sentence. She's constantly like she's about to fall over, and is instantly head over heels for any guy that even looks at her.
Anyone that believes that act has failed to notice that she's a fifth year Reversal Mountain student. In reality, she's a bit of a sadist who likes to mess around with people, and is a highly skilled actress capable of faking tears. She greatly enjoys feelings of superiority, and often sets others up to be humiliated or hurt somehow. Most of the time she acts stupid to get people to let their guard down. She even dyed her hair blonde for that.
History: Anita's childhood was uneventful. Her father was a successful business owner in Castelia, her mother the daughter of another successful business owner. There wasn't much love between them, but they managed to get along by their mutual love for their daughter. She was always a bit distant from the other kids, perhaps it was her tendency to continue with the games when the rest were scared and wanted to go home. Perhaps it was her tendency to injure her playmates. One thing's for sure, she never made any proper friends before she started Unity Academy, and even in her time there she's made no actual friends.

Chiara twirled a bit of hair around her finger as she looked for her brother and sister in the big hall. It didn't help that there were so many people, and most of them were taller than her. She found Tobias (who was standing in a corner talking to some of his friends) and waved to him when he looked in her direction. She looked around for Rhiannon next and sighed when she didn't see her sister anywhere. Either she wasn't looking hard enough, or Rhia just wasn't here. She huffed and leaned against the wall. Maybe she'd show up later. For now, Chiara decided to just focus on the ceremony, smiling as she noticed a few people joining Abundant Shrine. She couldn't wait to meet them. Maybe I can even introduce them to Toby. He needs more friends, she thought.

Miyoko was chatting up some of the new people joining Abundant Shrine, most of them girls. All of them had varied interest but seemingly had one thing in common: All really didn't like battling. Miyoko looked around the hall, still wondering when it was her turn to stand on the stage and offer a place in a house. Waving at Chiara, she asked her in a somewhat depressed voice "Barely anyone interviewed with me so I don't get to stand up there..."

She had to admit, the Sorting ceremony was pretty boring. Lucca had made her way down to the auditorium early enough to grab a seat near the front of the room, but watching the headmaster guy call up names one-by-one and admit or reject them was only marginally more exciting than watching her little brother graduate kindergarten. She leaned back in her chair so that the front two legs left the ground and waited patiently for him to make his way down to the S section of the enrollment list.

Lucca, Snow declared the headmaster, watching student's from Undella Bay, Desert Resort, and Miyoko get up to the stage. Miyoko smiled as she stood under her house flag. This was her first year doing such an event and she was looking forward to it even if no one choose her house. She watched Lucca be escorted onto the stage, giving the girl a warm smile.

[Dragonite]

By the time the ceremony was drawing to its close Lucca wasn't paying the closest attention, and it took her a moment to realize what was going on. She hastily jumped up, nearly knocking over the chair, and hopped up on the stage where everyone was waiting.

"Which House?" she said blankly, noticing Miyoko standing underneath the Abundant Shrine banner. "I, uh . . . I was hoping I'd get into the Relic Castle. Desert Resort." She waved her hair out of her face, trying to abate the impression that she'd just woken up.

Chiara didn't get a chance to respond to Miyoko as she got on the stage, but thought about how she wasn't really allowed to interview people anymore since she was "too hyper" and scared people off. Tobias had gotten a kick out of that. She sighed and tapped her foot on the ground, blinking curiously when she felt a Pokeball in her pocket shake. She sighed as Twoby came out of his Pokeball and knelt to pick him up, scowling when he fled from her grasp and ran off into the crowd.

"Twoby," she hissed, chasing after him. She shook her head as she finally caught him, but not before half the crowd was staring at her. She noticed that quite a few of them had icicles in their hair, her sister included. She chuckled nervously as she stared at Rhiannon.

"Sorry?"

The girl standing in for Desert Resort gave Lucca a small nod as if wanting to say Good choice. Waving Lucca closer, she held out a Luxury Ball. "Take it. It will be your first step to greatness in our house. I think it's fitting. I hope you find it so too. Miyoko gave the other girl a small annoyed look. The arrogance from Desert Resort did get on her nerves.

[Dragonite]

"Er . . . thanks," Lucca said somewhat lamely, accepting the Poké Ball and making to return to her seat. She wasn't entirely certain whether she ought to open the ball now or later, and decided on later. Whatever it happened to be, she resolved to take it for a walk after the ceremony.

The headmaster stepped up to the podium, smiling into the student body. "Thank you all students who helped our heads of house decide who to accept. I would hold a long speech about your opportunity at this wonderful school but I feel you have heard enough from us. Everyone is dismissed for the rest of the day. Have fun!

Miyoko sighed in relief, getting up from her chair. She was exhausted. Being an introvert and being forced to talk to so many people just exhausted her. Giving Chiara and Lucca a smile as she passed them, she retreated to one of the small dining areas the school offered. It wasn't the best food but people usually didn't go there so she usually ate alone. Ordering a small sandwich, she settled in with her small diary.

Chiara pouted as Rhiannon yelled at her and glanced down at Twoby, who just looked bored and uninterested. She tightened her grip on him and huffed.

"Your hair doesn't look that bad, Rhia. You just need to dry it and it'll be good as new!"

"Just because you don't care about how your hair looks doesn't mean that I don't. You're just as bad as that girl who follows Tobias around like a lost puppy."

"Emi's nice," Chiara murmured, spotting the girl standing off in the corner opposite of Tobias. She waved at her and nodded at her sister before going to talk to Emilia.

Watching the other students receive their Pokémon had, for better or for worse, caused Lucca's own interest to grow incrementally. While the rest of the school broke for meal, she exited the building and clicked the button on the Poké Ball [headmaster dude] had given her. There was a flash of light and out popped a smooth round creature with a diamond-shaped nose and obsidian eyes.

"Well . . . hello," Lucca said tentatively, observing it. The sphere patiently stared back. "You're a . . ." she cast her mind around ". . . a Solosis. Right?" If the Pokémon was aware of its given name, it did not show it, but continued to stare intently at her.

"I'm going to interpret that as a yes," she decided. "Let's go for a walk. How do you walk, anyway? I can't attach a leash to you or anything."

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko enjoyed her lunch. The food was okay but she was alone. It was a relaxing for her, especially after such an exhausting day. Wandering around school grounds, her head downcast as she watched her Deerling walk in front of her. Without a warning, she bumped into someone. "Oh sorry, I didn't see you there..." Moving away from the random student, she walked by the library, probably her second favorite building on campus.

Somewhere outside of the campus, there's a tree. There's quite a lot of trees there actually, since there's a whole forest there, but the rest of the trees are pretty much irrelevant here.
In that tree there was a Pachirisu chewing on an acorn, and next to the tree was the fifth year student called Johan. He was not chewing on an acorn. He was considering it though, holding an acorn in his hand. Instead he opted to hand the acorn over to Siegfried, the Pachirisu.
"Don't eat too fast, you hear?"
In response, choking sounds began coming from Siegfried. Johan sighed, picked up the Pachirisu and hit it on the back a few times. A chunk of acorn flew out of its mouth.
"Just because I eat like a pig doesn't mean you have to copy me."
"Chi..."

“Emi, shouldn't we go out and do something… Fun? This is kind of boring.” Chiara got up from Emilia’s bed and sighed. Somehow the younger girl had managed to drag her off to her room and make her watch her tinker around with some experiment.

“Nonsense, Tobias’ sister. What could be more fun than science? Kana, can you bring me a screwdriver?”

Chiara squeaked as Emilia's Venipede scuttered out from the corner, holding a screwdriver in its mouth. She watched curiously as Emilia knelt down and took the tool.

“Emi, it's like four now. Don't you want to talk to someone?” She sighed as she got no response. “I can give you advice on talking to Toby.”

“I need no help conversing with Tobias,” Emilia scoffed, moving her goggles onto her forehead.

“Toby will never notice you if you stay cooped up in your room all day,” Chiara murmured, grabbing Emilia's cape from the bed. “And I am his sister. I know him better than anyone else. I’m sure if you showed him one of your inventions, he’ll fall in love with you.”

“It can’t be that simple… Can it?”
Chiara shrugged as she handed Emilia her cape.

“It works all the time in movies. Why don't you give that… Thing a test run? What-What is that?” Chiara stared at the thing that Emilia had been working on, which honestly looked like a piece of junk.

“It’s my new drone! Once it’s complete, I'll be able to use it to remotely prank anyone I want.”

“...So it flies?” Chiara asked, looking at the wings that looked like they were about to fall off. “Why don't you see if it can fly first before you add more weight to it?”

“Good idea! Let’s go outside and fly it!” Emilia picked up the drone and clicked her teeth, smiling when Kana crawled over to her.

“Hopefully nobody gets a concussion this time around…” she mumbled under her breath.

“That was a joke, right?” Chiara asked as
Emilia grabbed a remote from the floor and closed the door behind her. Her smile gradually faded as the younger girl refused to answer until they got outside.

“I warned everyone to protect their heads. That one person didn't listen.” Emilia huffed as she set the drone down and started fiddling with the remote, giggling when the drone’s wings started fluttering. She squealed excitedly and started bouncing in place as she moved the drone around.

“It works, Emi! But should it be shaking like that?”

“Minor design flaw. I'll fix it later.” Emilia shrugged and furrowed her brow when the drone started moving in the opposite direction and slowly started descending. She flinched as it crashed into a tree and ran over to it, noticing that there was someone standing near the tree. She blushed and hid behind her cape.

“U-Um… hello…” she whispered, looking to Chiara for help.

[Blade Lord Nayru]

All of a sudden, Siegfried jumped off the tree onto Johan's shoulder. The next second there was a loud sound and leaves rained over his head. Looking around in the direction of the noise, he saw some sort of contraption crashed against the tree, and a couple of girls looking in his direction.
He recognized one of them as a Desert Resort student, the other he'd seen around a few times. He couldn't remember their names, though.
Not hearing the younger one's whispered greeting, he greeted them with a tone of voice that was a mixture of exasperation and amusement:
"Of all the trees you could possibly have crashed into you picked this one."
"Chirich!" the Pachirisu growled at the girls and ran off behind the tree, carrying its two half-eaten acorns.

“Sorry about that. Emi must have messed up her programming or something. Or maybe she shouldn’t have made a drone out of junk.” Chiara sighed and patted Emilia on the head. Just two seconds ago, she was literally jumping for joy, and now she was a nervous mess.

“A-At least I didn’t give him a concussion,” Emilia whispered from behind her cape. If Chiara wasn’t here right now, she would have already fled back to her dorm and hidden underneath her blankets for the rest of the day.

“I don’t think you should say that out of nowhere, Emi. You might scare this guy away.” Chiara walked over to the drone and picked it up, flinching when it burned her hand. “I think it overheated. Oh wait, we should introduce ourselves, shouldn’t we? My name’s Chiara, and this little munchkin here is Emilia.”

“I am not a munchkin!” Emilia pouted, sweeping her cape behind her. The blush had mostly subsided now, and only her cheeks were flushed. “I’m Emilia Rose Bates, inventor extraordinaire! And I’d thank you to give me the proper respect, Tobias’ sister!”

“There’s the Emi I know and love!” Chiara cheered, pulling the sleeves of her sweater over her hands to make it easier to carry the overheating drone. She rocked back and forth and looked at the boy.

“So what's your name?”

Initially somewhat annoyed that she had nearly been run over by an upperclassman, but that irritation subsided as she recognized the back of Miyoko's head. Bored of her walk, she decided to follow.

"Come on, Ball," she called to Solosis, who was indeed bouncing along behind her like an underinflated green basketball. "Miyoko! Wait!"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko's ears perked up as she heard her name called. Turning around, she gave the girl a warm smile. "Oh hey, Lucca. I was about to go to the Library roof, care to join me? It's very relaxing." She smiled, occasionally glancing at Lucca's Pokemon. Solosis? That's interesting.

"Solosis, eh? You'' warm up to it. It took me a while with my Pokemon too." She pointed at her Rufflet now sleeping on her head.

[Dragonite]

"Is that within the rules?" Lucca asked, blinking, awkwardly aware of the solosis bouncing around at her side. "Uh . . . sure, I guess. How do you get up there, anyway?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko nodded, still watching the Solosis. "Well, there is no rule that says we aren't. I found it when some Reversal Mountains picked on me. It's a great hiding place. The door is hidden behind a bookshelf." She gave Lucca an encouraging smile. "Plus, one of my teachers usually is up there. He likes the isolation."

[Dragonite]

"Sounds exciting," Lucca agreed, chancing a look over her shoulder to see if anyone was listening in. "Lead the way."

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko smiled, leading Lucca into and through the library. Weaving in between a shelf here and there, she arrived at the oddly colored bookshelf. Looking if Lucca was still behind her, she pulled on a specific book in the middle of the shelf. After a certain click, the shelf swung backwards, revealing a stair case. Smiling, she took the stair case, waving Lucca forward.

Eventually they reached a door on the top of the stair case. Passing through it, Miyoko stepped out on the small balcony. "Isn't this great?"

[Dragonite]

Mouth slightly open, Lucca paced from one side of the roof to the other. The roof was farther off the ground than she had realized from there. It was moderately windy above the tree line; Solosis was bouncing closer to the ground and nearer her ankles than before.

"It's nice up here," she said quietly, looking around. She could see the skyline of Castelia City off in the distance. "Do you come up here often?"

[Ferrospike]

"I do...it helps me clear my head." Miyoko smiled, walking up to the railing. Grabbing a hold of it, she muttered something inaudible under her breath. Turning to Lucca, she took the Rufflet of her head. "I know you have been here barely a day but do you like this school? I like it a lot. The teachers are awesome and most of the people are friendly...the battling is kinda dumb but oh well."

Smiling again, she took a seat on the floor. "There are usually Pokemon up here. If you come up her enough they might come back once you sit down."

[Dragonite]

"Are there?" Lucca said vaguely, nearly tripping over Solosis as she crossed over to sit down aside Miyoko. "I like it all right. I haven't attended any classes yet, though." She wondered what to say next. "The door behind the bookshelf was pretty cool."

[Ferrospike]

"There a whole bunch of secrets in the school. Apparently the buildings were build before the school was even an idea." Petting her Rufflet, she placed the small bird on her lap. Sighing, she muttered something again. "The secrets are nice. It lets you hide from the bullies."

Coughing slightly, she added "You should have a single room, by the way. Most Desert Resorts have. There are a few exceptions but usually they put most honors students into singles."

[Dragonite]

"Room?" Lucca blinked. It was now the evening on the first day of school and she realized she had no idea where she would be sleeping every night. "I have no idea where they're putting me. Where can I find out?"

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko chuckled, closing her eyes. "Well, your head of house should know. If not, check your dorm building. Your name should be next to the room number on the room directory on the first floor." Miyoko fell silent, before adding. "Don't worry, usually when you head there, someone should tell you."

[Blade Lord Nayru]

Johan tilted his head slightly, confused at the older one's explanation. He wasn't very tech-savvy so the whole sentence flew by him.
"Well if that thing had crashed into me a concussion would have been the least of my worries," he said and picked a leaf out of his hair, only seeming to notice the pile now.
He remained silent through their introductions and interactions, though a few bells rang in his head when he heard Chiara's name.
"I'm Johan," he said, and, feeling something was expected of him, added lamely: "Fourth year, Desert Resort."
Behind the tree was a loud knocking sound, but Johan ignored it.

Emilia tilted her head when she learned that Johan was also in Desert Resort and grinned.

“So you're also in Desert Resort? Have you met Tobias? Has he talked about me?”

“I don't think you'd want to hear what Toby says about you,” Chiara muttered, setting the drone down. She smiled at Johan.

“Johan, hmm? I think I'll call you Jojo.”

“Again with the idiotic nicknames, Tobias’ sister?” Emilia asked, running a hand through her hair. She sniffed and flipped her cape back, gasping when a sudden breeze blew and wrapped it around herself tightly.

“Does the ‘inventor extraordinaire’ need help untangling herself? I told you that wearing a cape everywhere was a bad idea.”

“Silence, Tobias’ sister!” Emilia huffed and managed to get the cape untangled from her body, hitting Chiara in the face in the process. She grinned triumphantly and picked up Kana from the ground.

“So you're not concussed, Johan. That's nice to know. I don't think I could handle another possible lawsuit,” she muttered underneath her breath.

Percy was about as familiar with Unity Academy as one could be. He knew most of the school's layout from top to bottom. He gained this knowledge from the multiple visits his father took him on. One day, Percy wasn't really happy about being at the school, as he had planned on having fun with some of his friends. Because of this, he stayed away from his dad and looked around the school by himself. At this point, his father was aware that Percy knew the school well, and was content with letting him wander around for a while. He figured his fellow professors would look out for him.

Strolling into the library, Percy decided he wanted to try and read some nice books. After going through one or two, he ended up grabbing one that clicked. He saw the bookshelf swing backwards, and was curious about the steps he found. Following the steps led him to the exact area he was looking for. Mesmerized by the view, Percy stared outside at the tall buildings and night sky of Unova. Every return to the school after that, Percy would always use the steps to have some peace and quiet.

After having a little welcome party with the rest of Undella Bay, Percy decided to have some alone time in that spot, his special area that he figured only the professors knew about. Walking up the steps, he saw two figures talking to each other. Percy was surprised by this. He saw they were having a conversation, so he decided not to butt in. He didn't want to be rude, after all. However, once their conversation was over, Percy knew he would want to get to know them. After all, if people were going to be on the roof with him, he'd need to get to know them. And with this, Percy sat, silently waiting for their conversation to end.

Miyoko was keeping general small talk with Lucca before noticing a boy had come up from the stairs. Smiling, she waved him closer. "Don't be shy. We don't bite. Are you new, I usually know who else comes up here." She gave out a welcoming hand, as if telling the boy he could come closer.

[Dragonite]

"Don't mind me, I, uh, need to go check out my housing situation," Lucca stammered. "Let's go, Ball." She strode purposefully past the new kid and down the steps back to the library interior, with absolutely no idea where to find her head of House anyway.

Percy was slightly bothered by the one girl's lack of acknowledgement, but kept it aside. Percy walked up to the girl and said "Ah, hello. I didn't want to barge in on your conversation. Yes, I'm a new student here." "I'm assuming you're an upperclassman?" Percy purposely left out how he knew about the roof, as he wanted to keep his father a secret if possible.

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko nodded after waving Lucca goodbye. Moving slightly again so the boy had room, she waited to introduce herself. After he did, Miyoko acknowledged what he said with a slight nod before saying rather softly "I am, err, I guess I am? I'm a 2nd year. Not much of an upperclassmen."

Scratching her head, she asked "I assume you found this because I left the bookshelf open? That's how I found out of this place."

[Blade Lord Nayru]

"I may have met him. May not have. The name means little if I've got no face to associate with it, but I don't think we've spoken much."
Johan sighed lazily, and then sighed again at the nickname. She didn't seem likely to use it again though, so he didn't press the issue.
"Well, if that contraption had hit me a concussion would be the least of my worries. What's it for, anyways?"
The knocking from the tree picked up again and Johan started counting under his breath.

Percy was happy that the girl gave him an opportunity to make an excuse. He nodded and said "Yeah, I was surprised to see this kind of passageway in the library of all places", while laughing. "2nd year is upperclassman to me. Anyway, what's your name?"

[ShaymieTehShaymin]

"Isn't it obvious? This is a state of the art drone, perfect for pulling pranks! Or maybe even surveillance!" Emilia set Kana on the ground and picked up her drone, which had cooled down a bit. She bit her lip as she examined it and frowned. "Maybe it just needs some work done."

"What do you mean by 'surveillance'? Emi, if you stalk Toby--"

"You worry too much, Tobias' sister. Besides, it can't be considered 'stalking' if I'm not the one physically doing it."

"I'm pretty sure that's not how it works." Chiara sighed and brushed some hair behind her ear, briefly debating on if she should tell her brother to get a restraining order--not that it would stop Emilia. She seemed like the kind of girl who didn't care much about the law. "So, Jojo, I haven't really seen you around much. I thought I knew mostly everyone here."

"Not everyone can be your friend, Tobias' sister," Emilia muttered as she pulled a wrench from her pocket and started tinkering with her drone.

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko giggled slightly, amused by the boy's comment. Even though she was a second year, she didn't feel much older than she did a year ago. Before looking into the sky, she introduced herself in a somewhat even tone. "I'm Miyoko Nishimiya. You can call me Miyoko-san though."

"What about you? What's your name?" She gave the boy another smile, her hand absent mindlessly scratching her Rufflet's head.

"Hi Miyoko-san, my name is Percy Johnson. Just Percy is fine." Percy got lost in thought for a second, wondering what to ask next. "So, Miyoko-san, how have you enjoyed your time here?"

Oline had just spent several hous in the library to read poetry. Having spent excessive time in the library for the past three years, she knows when a bookshelf is off by even a centimeter, so she looked behind the bookshelf. It was a balcony.

There was a view of Castelia. She still had distaste for the city, so she looked at the floor of the balcony.

"Ferr?"

"I'll be okay, Thyrnir, I'll look up soon~"

She nodded, somewhat sure of her of herself. The school meant something to her but the battling made her feel uneasy. There was hardly an alternative out there if you really never wanted to be part of Pokemon world. She liked Pokemon, especially the two she had but she never liked they battling aspect. She wanted a comfortable life, not a life where she walks across the world. It didn't appeal to her.

"I like it. Granted, I never like battling and try to get out of it if I can but oh well. I was sent here to be more social....doesn't help when you don't like the thing the school was founded on..."

Percy nodded. "I understand that to an extent. I'm not the best battler myself. I like to do it, I just don't know if I've got the right mindset. I don't mind losing, and I always emphasize fun more than anything else, and to a certain degree, it makes me feel like I'm not right for this school. But at the same time, I need to be here. It's good that you do what you want. If you just did what everyone else did because you had to, that'd be a shame."

There were two people there, evidently. The female was a second-year student whom she's seen around last year but never properly met. The other was an impressive first-year student whom she recently accepted into Undella Bay.

Thyrnir slowly rolled around on the floor in no particularly direction. It was pretty quiet by Ferroseed standards, but one could still easily hear a barbed Pokémon rolling all over the place.

Miyoko nodded, finally noticing the other girl. Somewhat perplexed, she wasn't sure what to say. Giving the girl a smile, she wondered what to say. This place is more popular than usual. In her first year, she barely saw anyone else on the little balcony. Maybe people payed more attention to it.

"H-hey there!~" Miyoko said brightly.

With some effort, Lucca unlocked the door to Room 202 and flinched. It was like walking into a janitorial closet. Every free surface was covered in screwdrivers, bits of metal, and what might have been a soldering iron.

"Is this the right place?" she asked out loud to nobody in particular. Indeed, on the door was a name tag proclaiming EMILIA BATES and LUCCA SNOW. Shrugging, she cleared off the bed that looked more habitable and less like a robotics workshop, dropped her baggage down it and made to return to the library.

"Oh, hi~" Oline responded. Thyrnir calmed down. "I'm Oline!" Oline managed to look up at Miyoko but could not bring herself to look upon the city.

[Ferrospike]

Miyoko seemed to notice the girl's discomfort. Not sure what to do, she asked rather cautiously "Are you scared of heights...?" Not sure what else to say, she added rather quickly "I'm Miyoko Nishimiya but you can call me Miyoko-san. Nice to meet you!?"

[Ayra]

"No, heights on their own are no problem at all. It's the view of Castelia specifically that makes me uncomfortable."

[Blade Lord Nayru]

"That sounds convenient," said Johan. "Do you make a lot of things like this? I might have use for something like that, so can I ask you for help sometime.... uh, Emily?"
"I don't spend much time on the school grounds. Most of the time I'm either in my room or out here," he said in response to Chiara not having seen him often.
Looking up at the sky, he realized it was getting a little dark. The knocking from behind the tree continued.

“My name is Emilia, not Emily.” Emilia narrowed her eyes at Johan and sniffed as she put her wrench back in her pocket. “And I suppose I could assist you. But it might cost you.”

“Emi, I don't think more stalker-bots are going to help anyone.”

“It's not stalking. It's more like protection for Tobias.”

“This isn't going to get Toby to like you,” Chiara said, running her hand through Emilia’s hair. “Maybe if you put a little more effort into not looking like a mad scientist, he would notice you more.”

“This isn't about my appearance,” Emilia stammered, her face growing red. She cleared her throat and looked up at Johan.

“When do you want a drone? And what will its purpose be? Pranks or surveillance?”

[Ferrospike]

"Oh, well okay." Miyoko wasn't sure what else to say. The girl seemed scared of something but she wasn't sure what to say. Pulling herself up on the rail, she gave the two a small wave. "I still need to move in a bit so I need to go. I will, however, want to hang out with you, Percy, Oline. You guys seem nice." She waved the two once more before leaving the balcony.

Miyoko strolled off to her room, taking the welcome box her mom had made for her. Taking in a breath, she placed the box on a desk and then threw herself on the bed.

Percy waved to Miyoko as she left, and turned to Oline. "Hi, I think we met at Undella before."

[Ayra]

"We have," olive answered Percy, smiling as Miyoko left, "It was a pleasure accepting you into the house. Your performance really impressed me." That was a lie. Oline actually accepted Percy for superficial reasons.

Percy smiled and said, "thank you." "How long have you been at the school?"

[Ayra]

"This is my fourth year. Been here a while"

Miyoko was proud of her schedule. She managed to get all her classes back to back and have enormous amounts of free time. Free time she would spend laying in the small hills on campus, doing her homework and watching the sky. Sadly, she could not do this today as it was pouring rain outside. She was resigned to one of the empty practice rooms. Finding a way to entertain herself, she stuck her homework to a blackboard and turned on the music system in the room.

As if not aware of what she was doing, she started to dance to the music, occasionally singing the lyrics.
