Smeargle

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/TeamUber_album/Pokemon%20Analysis%20Art/Smeargle.png

Name: Standard Baton Passer

Smeargle @ Salac Berry
Trait: Own Tempo
6 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
- Baton Pass
- Spore
- Ingrain
- Substitute

Standard Baton Pass set for Smeargle. Ingrain prevents Whirlwind or Roar from screwing you over. Spore helps set up further, and Substitute gives another weapon for Smeagle to pass.

Name: Belly Drum Passer

Smeargle @ Salac Berry
Trait: Own Tempo
252 HP / 252 Spe / 6 SpD
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
- Belly Drum
- Spore
- Substitute
- Baton Pass

An even mroe dangerous Baton Pass set, as it passes Max Attack to the recipient, and that's always dangerous. Same concept on setting up however gets phazed easier when Baton Passing. Passing to Cradily (along with some Speed from someone else) can prevent this problem because of Cradily's ability.

Name: Endeavor

Smeargle @ Salac Berry
Trait: Own Tempo
252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
- Endure
- Spore / Dark Void
- Endeavor
- Seismic Toss / Extremespeed

More recommeded in Double Battle. However Ghosts and Sandstorm / Hail ruin this strategy. However in Double Battle you can actually have support from your partner, such as Rain Dance or simply going all out on the Ghosts. Extremespeed or Seismic Toss? Seismic Toss always finishes off the weakned foes, however Extremespeed helps with a priority kill, however some Steels would still be strong enough to survive, after Leftovers. I'll update later, possibly.

Name: Zeus' Creation

Smeargle @ Choice Scarf / Focus Sash
Trait: Own Tempo
252 HP / 252 Spe / 6 SpD
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
- Spore
- U-Turn / Protect
- Healing Wish
- Destiny Bond

This makes a pretty nice anti-lead. With Choice Scarf, Smeargle makes a faster sleep inducer than Crobat and Yanmega (with no Speed Boosts).

Scout your opponent's team with U-Turn, or Protect to scout Choice items. Basically, you'd use Choice Scarf if packing U-Turn, and Focus Sash if it has Protect. Choice Scarf is the more superior item option for this particular set, but Protect is the more superior move over U-Turn. And Protect with Choice Scarf brings little to no use outside of scouting since you'll be switching out on the very next turn which could lead to your opponent setting up. A tough choice really.

Healing Wish is very nice as a last resort and can really help an injured teammate in need. Smeargle is immediately KOed when using it, but the next Pokémon switched in has its HP and status healed. If the Pokémon switched in is KOed by Spikes or Stealth Rock, the next Pokémon switched in is healed instead, which means that Healing Wish won't be cancelled out. If the foe is slower, it will attack the Pokémon that is switched in, which won't bring a free switch-in which is also why Focus Sash is considered, simply for the lower speed and bigger chance to freely heal the next pokemon. Choice Scarf is still recommended.

Destiny Bond is, yet again, a great last resort. Only this time Smeargle actually has a shot of KOing something. The thought of killing SD Garchomp with Destiny Bond can really help your team (also into thinking Garchomp will attack expecting a Baton Pass set.)

Other Options:

Smeargle can learn every move in the game, but most moves are useless for Smeargle.

Smeargle really shouldn't have a sweeping set since it's Attack and Special Attack base stat is pitiful. Smeargle is too fragile for Reflect or Light Screen, but can actually make good use in double battle partnered with someone that learns Follow Me.

However Smeargle still has decent options. Taunt prevents phazers and hazers from ruining your fun. Perish Song along with Substitute and Spore is nice, but Sleep Talkers play around with this set taking the Spore and switching to a phazer or hazer. Transform is useful for copying stat changes, such as Cursepert. Nasty Plot is another option, but that's better left off to Togekiss, since Smeargle will have to waste 3 turns to power its stats.

Counters:

Basically all phazers and hazers, such as Skarmory, Zapdos, Suicune, Weezing, or Vaporeon, end your baton pass chain if you lack Taunt or Ingrain. Ghosts and negative weather effects ruin the attacking sets of Smeargle. Priority moves kill it as well, mainly Hitmontop who can also Triple Kick the Subs. Scarfs over 273 Spe (410 @ Scarf) beat Smeargle as well. Sleep Talkers absorb Spore, and Hypno or Banette can't be Spored at all.

What about Mean Look/Spider Web as an alternate option? This is very valuable for BP teams, so you can trap something that is easy to set up on.
