Altaria

http://pokemon.supercheats.com/artwork/334.png

Typing: Dragon / Flying

Abilities:

Natural Cure: This Pokemon is cured of all Status ailments upon switching out.

DD Taria

Altaria @ Leftovers / Yache Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 16 HP / 252 Atk. / 240 Spd.
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp.Atk.)
- Dragon Claw / *Outrage*
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
- Roost / Aerial Ace / Pluck / Flamethrower / Fire Blast

If you plan to use this in the OU Metagame be sure to KO your opponents Levitating / Flying Steel Types as they stop this set cold. But with Dragon and Ground attacks you should deal neutral to virtually every Pokemon. 240 Speed EV's after a Dragon Dance allows you to outrun base 125 Speed Pokemon like Swellow and Weavile.

Take your pick between Dragon Claw and Outrage. Dragon Claw is the consistent attack while Outrage is more powerful but gets you locked into it and counfused. Earthquake is for amazing coverage. Dragon Dance is the core of the set as it enables you to boost your stats. Then you can Roost off damage that foes manages to get on you or inflicted yourself through Life Orb, or can pick one of the other attacks. Aerial Ace and Pluck are Flying STAB choices while Flamethrower and Fire Blast are for Skarmory and Bronzong.

*NOTE: You may want to use Lonley (+ Atk, - Def.) or Naughty (+ Atk, - Sp.Def.) Natures if you really want Flamethrower / Fire Blast to work.

Stopped By A Q-Tip

Altaria @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 252 HP / 200 Def. / 56 Sp.Def
Nature: Careful (+ Sp.Def, - Sp.Atk.)
- Roost / Rest
- Toxic / Sing
- Dragon Claw / *Outrage* / Aerial Ace / Pluck
- Earthquake / Haze

A set trying to take advantage of Altaria's Resistances and decent Defensive Stats. The offensive moves here won't be doing much of anything but are there so Taunt doesn't completely shut you down.

Pick between Roost and Rest for recovery. Rest may prove to be better as you can rid yourself of sleep with Natural Cure. Roost for reliable recovery. Toxic and Sing are your best bets for inflicting Status on your opponent. Dragon Claw, Outrage, Aerial Ace, and Pluck are your best bets as far as STAB goes. Earthquake for the majority of the Steel Type Pokemon out there, or Haze your opponents Stat boosts away.

Specs-Taria

Altaria @ Choice Specs
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 4 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spd.
Nature: Modest
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse / Ice Beam / Blizzard
- Hidden Power [Ground / Electric] / Rest

It's like a cute fluffy Salamence. (Literally.) Anyways hit as hard as you can with Draco Meteor, Fire Blast or Flamethrower for Steel Coverage, Dragon Pulse, Ice Beam, or Blizzard for sweeping, and HP Ground for more Steel coverage or HP Electric for Gyarados haters.

DD Sleep Talk

Altaria @ Leftovers / Yache Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 16 HP / 252 Atk. / 240 Spd.
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp.Atk.)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw / *Outrage*

Considering Steel Type is the only type that resists Dragon Attacks I figured this set deserves at least a mention. I figured that seeing as how it has Natural Cure, decent Defenses, and average Attack and Speed Stats that are boostable along with a great attacking type I figured it should at least taken advantage of quite possibly the greatest Sleep Talker in the UU metagame.

Main objective is to Dragon Dance to boost your Stats then Rest when you get low on HP. Sleep Talk to further boost your Stats or Attack with your Dragon awesomeness. But make sure you take care of ALL of your opponents Steel Type Pokemon.

Mixed Altaria

Altaria @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 112 Atk / 252 SpA / 144 Spe
Nature: Mild
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Flamethrower
- Roost / Rest

Draco Meteor hits anything hard that doesnt resist it. Flamethrower hits what resists Draco meteor. Earthquake hits anything else since Dragon+Fire+Ground is unresisted...Especially in UU where just Dragon+Fire is unresisted. Roost to heal off LO Damage. Rest to heal status and gain full hp. The sleep status goes away with a switch.

Other Options

Pursuit: Interesting choice that nobody would expect. Definately worth a mention if you wanna get the jump on running Azelfs, Gengars, and Alakazams.

Agility: Fairly pointless seeing as how Altaria has Dragon Dance but could be used with a Life Orb Special Attacker set possibly.

Featherdance: To improve Altaria's ability to take Physical Attacks by weakening up your opponent's Attack Stat.

Perish Song: A nifty little move that tells your opponent "Switch in 3 turns or die."

*Heat Wave*: Outclassed by Flamethrower and Fire Blast but still could see some gameplay I suppose.

Ominous Wind: Possibly giving you a way to boost all of your stats at once. (Don't count on it happening alot though.)

Counters

Anything with an Ice Attack and can live 1-2 or Altaria's attacks is a decent counter. Walrein, Dewgong, and Lapras are good UU examples.

While Gyarados, Salamence, Dragonite, and Garchomp can easily OHKO it with either Stone Edge, Ice Fang, or STAB Dragon Attacks. Skarmory and Bronzong cause trouble to the DD Sets. Magnet Rise Steel Types also cause DD Altaria additional problems.

Blissey and many other decent Special walls stop the Specs set cold.

Opinion

Its great that the UU metagame has something like this but it is outclassed mainly by Salamence and Dragonite. It does everything that the other Dragons can do just not as well.

The only thing Altaria has over it's fellow Dragons is the Natural Cure Ability making it one of the few Physical Sweepers that don't mind getting Burned.
