Special Sponge
Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe
Calm (+Sp.Def, -Atk)
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Thunder Wave/ Toxic

This set is just what its name says. This Lanturn can soak up a lot of special attacks. It might not have impressive Sp.Def stats but can wall many things with its impressive hp. Its immune to a lot of common attacks in the UU metagame. Such as Ice Beam, Thunderbolt (immune), Surf, and Flamethrower. Surf and Thunderbolt are just for stab; Ice Beam is for Grass and Altaria. Thunder Wave and Toxic are your preference. Thunder Wave to cripple fast sweepers and Toxic to destroy pokemon that can set up and sweep. Like Grumpig, Gastrodon, Hypno, and Quagsire… all that commonly switch into Lanturn.

Rest/ Sleep Talk
Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe
Calm (+Sp.Def, -Atk)
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Surf
-Thunderbolt/ Discharge

This set allows you to heal up Lanturn other than a lucky Volt Absorb and allows you to heal from Toxic, which will cripple Lanturn. Just like the other set except now you are sure to heal Lanturn. Again Surf and Thunderbolt are for stab. Discharge for paralysis hax and Thunderbolt for more power. Also you can absorb Sleep Powder from Grass and Hypnosis from other pokes that like to set up. Just a bulky tank Sp.Def tank in general.

Choice Specs
Lanturn @ Choice Specs
Ability: Volt Absorb
40 HP / 136 SpA / 252 SpD / 80 Spe
Modest (+Sp.Atk, -Atk)
-Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power Grass
Choice Specs allows Lanturn to use somewhat of its offensive Sp.Atk now. It will have 414 Sp.Atk with Choice Specs. The moveset is simple. Surf, Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam are all to hit most things neutral or Super Effective. Hidden Power Grass to hit Things like Quagsire that can wall you all day. I did not put Brine on here for that reason. Also because of so many Water/Ground typing that can easily switch into Lanturn and start setting up. And other Lanturn wall this set without hp grass.

Opinion
Lanturn is a beast with its hp having a base stat of 125 and an awesome special sponge. It walls most things in UU. Being able to resist fire, ice, water, steel, thunder, and flying. I did not put the Parafusion set on there because its just a waste of Lanturn's ability of being a Sp.Def wall and its just about chance that set. With the Rest/ Sleep Talker set things can no longer put you to sleep and set up! Other battlers will be frustrated with Lanturn since it’s so hard to take down from the special side. The EV’s I put down are just for a guideline. You can max out HP and Sp.Def if you like. So I strongly recommend you use Lanturn in the UU metagame. Also resisting that many things you could probably use it in other tiers.

Countering Lanturn
Garchomp can easily switch into Lanturn and EQ it to its water grave. You have to invest a lot of EV’s into Sp.Atk to OHKO Garchomp with an Ice Beam. But you have to predict a switch with Garchomp. Starting for the OU’s… Celebi is a good counter also because it can take Ice Beams like no other even if it’s weak to ice. It can start Calm Minding up and Grass Knot or Baton Pass that over to a fast special sweeper. Electivire can also predict a T-bolt and get a Motor Drive and EQ Lanturn in return. Blissey can wall Lanturn all day and Snorlax can set up curses it all day cause with Lanturn’s meager Sp.Atk stat its not going to do anything. Dugtrio can trap and kill Lanturn, but it has to be careful if it switches in on Lanturn because of Ice Beam (it can live an Ice Beam at full health if Lanturn doesn’t have 247 Sp.Atk) or Surf. Now to the lower tiers. Torterra and Meganium are good counters. Note that Torterra does not like switching into an Ice Beam. But Meganium can take Ice Beams all day and both can return a stabbed grass attack or Torterra can EQ Lanturn. Hypno can just Wish/ Rest of Lanturn’s hits or statuses. And Grumpig can set up on it easily but has to be careful of Toxic if not carring Rest. In general if a pokemon has a good attack stat or a stabbed EQ Lanturn will not stick around for very long.
