Skuntank

http://pokemon.supercheats.com/artwork/435.png

Typing: Poison / Dark

Abilities:

Stench: Lowers chance of random encounters.

Aftermath: Deals 1/4 maximum HP damage a Pokemon that KO'ed user with an attack that involved physical contact.

Banded Skunk

Skuntank @ Choice Band
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 24 HP / 252 Atk. / 232 Spd.
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp.Atk) / Naughty (+ Atk, -Sp.Def.)
- Explosion / Double-Edge
- Crunch / *Sucker Punch* / Pursuit / Night Slash
- Poison Jab / *Sucker Punch* / Pursuit
- Rock Smash / Fire Blast

This set would be accepted in the OU metagame with open arms if it wasn't for one thing. (Considering it has a maximum of a very overlooked 469.5 Attack after the Choice Band boost.) It lacks the much needed Sucker Punch and a more reliable Fighting move than Rock Smash. Nonetheless it has a few decent options making it incredible in UU play.

Choice Banded Explosion will usually OHKO at least something even in the OU metagame but Double-Edge is also an option if you don't wanna KO Skuntank and still have a respectably powerful attack. Pick between Crunch, Sucker Punch, Pursuit, and Night Slash for primary STAB choice. Crunch or Sucker Punch for the consistent power while Night Slash has the high Critical Hit ratio, and Pursuit hits running foes for massive damage. For the next moveslot pick inbetween Poison Jab or Pursuit. (If you didn't choose it in the last moveslot.) Next moveslot is your answer to Steel Type Pokemon. Rock Smash gives you a better chance vs. Aggron, Probopass, and Bastiodon while Fire Blast hits Mawile, Forretress, Scizor, and Skarmory harder.

Stunna Shades Skunk

Skuntank @ Choice Specs
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 24 Atk. / 252 Sp.Atk / 232 Spd.
Nature: Modest (+ Sp.Atk, - Atk.) / Rash (+ Sp.Atk, - Sp.Def.)
- Sludge Bomb
- Dark Pulse / Shadow Ball
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Grass / Ground / Fighting] / Explosion

Ironically Skuntank has a slightly better Special than Physical movepool. It has some decent STAB options and with a maximum Special Attack of 397.5 (After Choice Specs Boost.) It is definately a set worth consideration.

Sludge Bomb for some impressive STAB and the occasional 30% Poison. Next pick inbetween Dark Pulse and Shadow Ball for your option to take on Psychic's and Ghosts. Dark Pulse snags STAB, hits Normals, and gets the occasional Flinch, while Shadow Ball goes unresisted among Fighting Type Pokemon. Fire Blast or Flamethrower for Steel and Grass coverage. Then last but not least pick inbetween Hidden Power or Explosion.

HP Grass if you wanna get at some of the Ground Type switch-ins like Quagsire, Gastrodon, Whiscash, Golem, and Swampert. (Only to name a few examples.) HP Ground is for additional Steel coverage and also makes Heatran think twice before OHKO'ing you with Earth Power. HP Fighting is for more Steel coverage and also hits Normal Type Pokemon.

Screech Skunk

Skuntank @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 24 HP / 252 Atk. / 232 Spd.
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp.Atk.)
- Screech
- Pursuit / *Sucker Punch*
- Rock Smash / Poison Jab
- Explosion / Poison Jab / Double-Edge

Screech can try to cause a switch and then when you got them go for the Pursuit for incredible amounts of damage. Rock Smash enables you to hit Steel Type Pokemon while Poison Jab has more Strength and STAB. Then pick inbetween Explosion and Double-Edge for the respectively power Normal attack.

OU Wallbreaker

Skuntank @ Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 100 Atk. / 176 Sp.Atk. / 232 Spd.
Nature: Rash (+ Sp.Atk, - Sp.Def.)
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse / Sludge Bomb
- Crunch / *Sucker Punch* / Pursuit / Poison Jab / Hidden Power [Grass / Ground / Fighting]

A nifty little set I just came up with. It is fast and destructive. Check out some damage calcs against some of the most notorious walls in the OU metagame if you don't believe me.

Love Memento

Skuntank @ Liechi Berry / Salac Berry / Focus Sash
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 4 HP / 252 Atk. / 252 Spd.
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - Sp.Atk.) / Jolly (+ Spd, - Sp.Atk.)
- Memento
- Endure / Rock Smash / Poison Jab
- Explosion
- Crunch / *Sucker Punch* / Pursuit

A self sacrificing gimmick set. Objective here is to activate whatever berry you picked through Endure. (But isn't needed if you are using Focus Sash.)

Then take your pick between Memento or possible Liechi Berry Explosion depending if you need to take out a troublesome foe, or you need to drop a foe's Stats to aid someone else to set up for a sweep. The other attack choices are so Skuntank can do some damage itself before it goes down.

The Punisher

Skuntank @ Leftovers / Shuca Berry
Ability: Aftermath
EV's: 176 HP / 100 Def. / 232 Spd.
Nature: Impish (+ Def, - Sp.Atk.)
- Punishment
- Swagger
- Taunt / Protect
- Rock Smash / Poison Jab / Toxic

Take advantage of Skuntank's rather large HP Stat and give your opponent the punishment they rightfully deserve. This is also probably the most good use Skuntank will get out of Taunt so for you novelty set players out there this is the set for you.

Start things off with a Swagger to induce Confusion or Taunt to Prevent random Pokemon spoiling your fun. Then rack up Swaggers and attack accordingly with Punishment, Rock Smash or Poison Jab. You can even sacrifice Rock Smash or Poison Jab coverage for Toxic to induce more Status on your opponent.

*Punishment gains 20 base power after each level increase in Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, or Speed, and it maxes out at base 200 Power (Base 300 Power including STAB).*

After each Swagger, Punishment gains base 40 Power, which means that if you manage to get your opponent to get +6 Attack through thats a total of base 120, base 180 including STAB.

Other Options

Dig: It is Skuntank's only Physical Ground move but be weary of Earthquake users while underground as if you get hit underground by Earthquake you will take x4 damage. (x2 from weakness, x2 from being underground during Earthquake.)

Shadow Claw: It a possible alternative to your Dark attacks that are probably much better on Skuntank than Shadow Claw.

Payback: Is a better option against the likes of Celebi and Cresselia if you know that your are slower than they are.

Iron Tail: It's pretty much the only other "usable" attack Skuntank really has to offer.

Counters

Rock / Steel Types are fairly decent counters as they are only scared of CB Rock Smash which could be a 2-3HKO where as they can hit back with Earthquake.

In OU Tyranitar and Heatran laugh at virtually every varient of Skuntank. Skuntank and his user would probably be laughing in one case and that is if the "The Punisher" set actually works on them.

But in general anything that can serve up a STAB Earthquake is a sure fire Skuntank counter, but be weary of Explosion and Aftermath.

Opinion

Skuntank is a pokemon that could have received a few more favors from Arceus, as it has a dreadfully shallow movepool. (Amazingly enough I managed to make 6 detailed sets.)

It is also outclassed by Drapion even though Skuntank may make for a better mix attacker than Drapion. (As throughly proven in my "OU Wallbreaker" set.)

It even has a fairly decent Ability Aftermath which deals 25% of the foe's total HP damage to whomever K.O'ed it with an attack that required physical contact. (Punching, Kicking, etc.)
