Summary:

Most Used Set:

Kricketune's most used set has to be the Swords Dance set, because after a Swords Dance Kricketune gains an Attack stat of 590, which is quite ridiculous.

Usual Counters:

Kricketune's biggest counters are Flying, Fire, and Poison-types. Torkoal can take a hit with its superb defenses and finish Kricketune with a STAB Fire attack. Seviper outspeeds and KOes with Sludge Bomb or Poison Jab. Noctowl deserves special mention as a counter seeing as it is immune to sing thanks to Insomnia. It also has Air Slash to finish off Kricketune, and it can Roost off the damage accumulated.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used On:

Kricketune would usually be used as a Swords Dancer in novelty teams. Kricketune should be paired up with a Pokémon who can remove Poison and Flying threats. A prime example of this is Pikachu, who can remove most of Kricketune's threats with a STAB Thunderbolt.

In Depth:

Ability: Swarm
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) Or Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)

- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor
- Brick Break
- Sing / Endure / Aerial Ace

Kricketune has an impressive Base Attack stat of 85. With Swords Dance, his Attack doubles up to a whooping 590; although, it's still low. X-Scisor is for basic STAB while Brick Break allows Kricketune to hit Steel Pokémon. For the last move we have three options, each with its own benefits. Sing allows Kricketune to be able to set up, though, its low accuracy can be disappointing. Endure allows Salac Berry activation and it gives Kricketune a way to hurt faster Pokémon. Aerial Ace gives Kricketune good coverage by hitting Flying, Poison, and Bug Pokémon, who resist your other attacks.

An Adamant Nature powers up his Attack stat while not lowering any of his frail defenses. Jolly is another option and it is best used with Salac Berry.

The Item choice is entirely up to you. Salac Berry gives Kricketune a higher chance of sweeping, while Focus Sash and Sing make it possible to get more than 1 Swords Dance.

Ability: Swarm
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) Or Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)

- X-Scissor
- Brick Break
- Aerial Ace
- Return / Sing

Kricketune can pull of a Choiced set with his average Attack stat. X-Scissor is the main attacking option. Brick Break hits Steels, Aerial Ace hits Bugs, and at last we have Return. Return is useful for hitting Poison and Flying Pokémon, seeing as it is Kricketune's second most powerful attack and with a Choice Band it is going to sting. Sing is useful with a Choice Scarf as it allows Kricketune to put your opponent's Pokémon to a slumber. The 55% accuracy is a turnover, but it is Kricketune's best option.

An alternate EV spread can be used for this set, it goes as follows: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe and a Jolly Nature. This set has enough Speed to outspeed base 115 Pokémon after a Salac Berry boost. Max Attack is to hit hard, and the rest of the EVs were put into HP to give Kricketune a little bit more bulk.

Other Options:

Kricketune has other useful moves but they are genarally outclassed. Perish Song along with Protect can be used to form a gimmicky set, but not having Mean Look to prevent your oponent from switching means it won't work as well. Knock Off and Taunt can be used on a supporting set, but Kricketune's low defenses make the aforementioned options not viable.

Opinion:

Kricketune, simply put, is one of those 'terrible' Pokémon. Kricketune has only one chance to set up most of the time, and if you haven't removed its counters by then, he becomes useless. Poor defenses and Speed make him an overlooked Pokémon. Although, one should not understimate him, because after a Swords Dance it can cause a disaster.

I'll revamp this tomorrow, and it'll be posted in the revamp thread. Anyway, the analysis was great; not perfect, but it's above average for a beginner such as yourself. If you want anything more to do, PM me.
