Corsola:

Summary:

Most Used Corsola Set:

Corsola usually uses the Calm Mind set to help its Special Defense stat and compensate for its mediocre Special Attack stat.

Usual Counters:

Anything that can take on Water/Ice moves and Hidden Power Grass well can stop a CM Corsola. While the Physical set is easily countered due to the lack of Waterfall.

Types of Teams Corsola Is Used On:

Corsola is used on stall teams for its ability to become a bulky pest with a few boosts.

In Depth:

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)

- Surf
- Ice Beam / Hidde Power Grass
- Recover
- Calm Mind

Corsola doesn't threaten a lot of Pokémon, but it has certain niches in the UU metagame. Calm Mind is pretty difficult to set up because of Corsola's frail Defenses; but Recover helps. Simply Calm Mind and Recover and you have a good enough SpA to somewhat sweep. Being a Water/Rock-type gives it nice resistances and eases the set up of Calm Mind.

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 6 Spe
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk) Or Quiet (+SpA, -Spe)

- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass
- Power Gem / Explosion

The given spread boosts Corsola's SpA to 378, being able to become a threat and damage as much as possible with its STABs. Explosion is probably your last resort as it can somewhat dent a Pokémon really well. Hidden Power Grass is able to dent Water-type Pokémon that resist Surf and Ice Beam.

http://www.pokesho.com/img_icon_us/i_corsola.gifBand Corsola@ Choice Band
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)

- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide / Sucker Punch
- Return / Surf

Hustle and Choice Band boost Corsola's Attack to 515, which is really good to dent or even destroy a Pokémon easily. Explosion should be able to OHKO anything that doesn't resist it in UU. Rock Slide gets STAB and does more damage than Earthquake. While Corsola can also learn Stone Edge and Rock Blast, the accuracy in accordance to Hustle is extremely low, so it’s best to go with STAB Rock Slide.

Other Options:

Corsola gets Rock Blast and Stone Edge for its Physical movepool but both have very low accuracy when using Hustle to boost Attack. A Dual Screen set might work, but Corsola is too frail to pull it off. Corsola might survive a Special Attack and retaliate with Mirror Coat, but it's too weak on the Special Defense side.

Opinion:

Corsola is a nice Pokémon to play with. It has a few niches if you decide to play the UU metagame, but it can’t really hold an advantage over the numerous threats in the UU metagame.

Iac, for other options, Mirror Coat, Stealth Rock, Dual Screens and the gimmicky Rollout+Defence Curl all can work for Corsola as can Sucker Punch for the band set
