Summary:

Most Used Set:

The most used set is probably the SubCM set or Choice Specs as both are Grumpig's most threatening sets and very hard to counter. Trick can stop stallers that use Pokemons like Chansey, Steelix, Spritomb. While Calm Mind Substitute can pose huge damage against those that try to stop it from sweeping.

Usual Counters:

Usual counters are Steel,Ghost, Dark, and Bug types. Some common counters are Mismagius, Registeel, Steelix, Absol, Spiritomb, Rotom, etc. Mismagius can also Calm Mind on Grumpig and be able to take it down one on one. While Registeel is able to take Focus Blast or HP Fighting very well, it lacks power and Grumpig might be able to counter some Registeel sets with its Rest/Sleep Talk set. Steelix can pose huge damage with Gyro Ball as well as taking HP Fighting or Focus Blast well. Spiritomb can set up on Grumpig with Calm Mind and counter it.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

This Pokemon is probably the best to use in a sweeper team. Make sure your team is able to resolve problems that Grumpig has bypassing. Like Dark/Steel/Ghost/Bug types.

SubCM Grumpig

Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Speed
~ Substitute
~ Calm Mind
~ Psychic
~ Focus Blast / HP Fighting / Grass Knot / Energy Ball / Signal Beam

With these spread Grumpig becomes very bulky and fast. With Base 80 Speed it can outspeed many Pokemons and be able to set up Calm Mind and Substitute very well. Psychic contributes STAB and can do Massive damages after 2 Calm Minds. One Calm Mind boosts its Sp.Atk to 326 and Sp.Def to 384, making it very powerful and at the same time bulky. Focus Blast is for Pokemon that resist Psychic, like Dark types and Steel Types. While Grass Knot and Energy is viable for Grass/Ground/Rock types, but Psychic can do just as much, so Focus Blast or HP Fighting (more PP and 100% accuracy) are more viable. Thick Fat also contributes to its bulkiness, as it decreases their power by 50%.

CM Sweeper Grumpig

Grumpig @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Timid / Modest
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Speed
~ Calm Mind
~ Psychic
~ Grass Knot / Energy Ball / Shadow Ball
~ Focus Blast / HP Fighting

This makes Grumpig a big threat with its Speed and power. The given Speed EVs boosts Grumpig's Speed to 284, which is enough to outspeed many UU threats. With the given EVs on Sp.Atk is reaches 279 Sp.Atk. This might not look so nice, but with Life Orb and one Calm Mind, Grumpig reaches a Sp.Atk of 544 and a Sp.Def of 384, which is very threatening. Psychic is for STAB boost and massive sweeping. Focus Blast is for Pokemon that resist Psychic, like Dark types and Steel Types. And Grass Knot or Energy ball for those Ground/Rock/Water types. Shadow Ball for Ghost and Psychic types that are able to resist Fighting and Psychic well.

Specs Grumpig

Grumpig @ Choice Specs
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Timid / Modest
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spe
~ Trick
~ Psychic
~ Focus Blast / HP Fighting
~ Shadow Ball

Grumpig with Choice Specs can be deadly and at the same time tricky. Common Pokemons that try to ruin Choice Specs Grumpig's fun, like Chansey can be Trick into Specs. Which can totally ruin Chansey's abilites. Psychic with STAB boost and Specs boost is very threatening to anything that can't resist it. While Focus Blast is for Pokemon that resist Psychic, like Dark types and Steel Types. And Shadow Ball for Ghost and Psychic types that are able to resist Fighting and Psychic well.

Rest/Sleep Talk Grumpig
http://pokedox.com/images/pokemon/Grumpig.gif
Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpD
~ Rest
~ Sleep Talk / Calm Mind
~ Psychic
~ Toxic / Shadow Ball / HP Fighting / Calm Mind

You may either choose to stall with Toxic with Grumpig while being a threat with STAB Psychic or Calm Mind sweep freely but being resisted by Dark types. You can also go with Shadow Ball and Psychic to hit anything that resists it. But, you aren't taking advantage much with a weak 216 Sp.Atk. You can also replace Sleep Talk for Calm Mind to take advatange of recovery and at the same time Psychic and Shadow Ball to sweep. While it isn't so great to have Toxic and Psychic when Steel types resist it very well, you can go with Hidden Power Fighting.

Other Options

Charge Beam can also help contribute to sweeping, but isn't very powerful nor reliable. You can use a Counter/Mirror Coat set with its defenses as a good surprise factor. You can use Power Gem to Flying and Fire types, like Moltres, which is can dent huge damage to it. You can also try dual screens with Reflect and Light Screen. Also gets Thunderwave and Trick Room for other means of support.

Opinion

In my opinion I think Grumpig can be a great threat to teams that are unable to stop it. Although some Pokemons that defeat Grumpig at its own game, like Mismagius, Spiritomb, Clefable, Slowbro. It is still the only Psychic type in UU that can properly CM sweep and be able to handle its counters.

Magic Coat redirects any threatening Status coming towards Grumpig, while Seismic Toss can deal consistant damage. Recycle is always an option with Leppa Berry if you do not wish to be PP stalled. Even Petaya Berry and Recycle can work with Grumpig's decent Speed.

do you seriously have to use recycle as an option for everything?

Yes, you non-enviromentalist.

On something like Grumpig, Recycle+Leppa makes sure that Grumpig isn't PP stalled, which would make sense, seeing as it is a WALL. And Petaya Berry would boost Grumpig's Special Attack by 50%, basicly a Choice item without the lock. Adding Recycle will make it act just like a Nasty Plot, and with Grumpig's decent Speed, it would benefit from that.

It's not a wall lol. And no one's going to PP stall out Grumpig, lol.

I've seen the common HYPNO do it.

I've seen the common HYPNO do it.

That's because Hypno has access to Wish.

That's because Hypno has access to Wish.

That's because means that it can, so therefore it is possible. :P

Please use common sense. You were implying that Grumpig can act as a wall. While it has no elements of a wall to do so. Hypno outclasses it due to having Wish. Thus, Grumpig is unable to stall and all your above statements are false. End of discussion.
