Summary:

Most Used Set:

Regigigas' most effective role is a physical attacker, with a speed stat that matches Salamence and the base 100 legendaries. Unfortunately, Slow Start usually forces it to devote at least half of its moves to staying alive for five turn, immensely limiting its coverage. Therefore, Regigigas' goal is twofold: being able to survive against all odds for at least five turns and then being able to attack back with its 160 base attack stat.

Usual Counters:

Regigigas loses to most attackers based on what it utilizes for the first five turns. Anything that can hit Regigigas hard despite its best efforts to stay alive will generally defeat it. This can be difficult to achieve depending on what strategy for survival Regigigas uses, though.

Anything that can set up a Substitute to avoid status conditions and has reasonable bulk basically walks all over most of Regigigas' sets. It simply can't muster the strength to break through most Pokemon before Slow Start wears off. Although the status sets give the most trouble, since most of Regigigas' counters don't want to come in on paralyzing or confusing moves (most especially Lucario and Infernape), Machamp can come in and fire off a DynamicPunch, or in the case of Guts Machamp, a boosted Close Combat, anyways, since it really doesn't care about minor confusion damage, and it's slow as crap anyways.

After Slow Start wears off, anything that resists Return and isn't destroyed by EQ can somewhat counter Regigigas. This very short list is comprised of Gengar, Mismagius, Bronzong, and Skarmory. If it has Fire Punch instead of EQ, then Heatran stops it, although it had better have a way to stop it fast unless it wants to be Paralyzed. Cresselia can also stop it with the proper defenses, although, again, its status conditions make it very annoying to most walls. Dusknoir and most versions of the Rotom formes don't really care about status either way, and can burn Regigigas to make its only redeeming quality rather subpar.

Special attackers are generally shut down by Blissey or anything not hit super effective by whatever move it's locked into, since without Choice Specs Regigigas' incredible movepool is let down pretty hard by a base 80 Special Attack stat.[/QUOTE]

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

Regigigas can be used well on offensive or defensive teams thanks to its irrationally large bulk and annoying abilities, combined with its ability to actually sweep if it pulls off five turns of stalling. Gimmick teams, such as Trick Room and Baton Pass, generally don't have much use for Regigigas' Slow Start. It does have the ability to set up weather and rather well, too.

Regigigas gets an insane Attack stat of 460 with just an Adamant Nature and 252 Attack EVs. Unfortunately, it has to wait five turns to get that, during which the average Swampert easily outspeeds you. The lack of either Rest or Protect in Regigigas' moveset means that keeping it alive for five turns is a humongous chore, even in NU, and in OU it's simply a nightmare. The Parafusion combo of Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave is your best bet for lasting that long. Leading with Confuse Ray gives you a chance to get Thunder Wave in, although in certain cases paralysis might be better right off the bat. Return is an insanely powerful STAB move for Regigigas, easily OHKOing almost everything without massive defensive investment (or named Skarmory or Cresselia). Earthquake is a powerful option for hitting Steels, but many Pokemon are immune to the combination of Normal/Ground, making Fire Punch the better, if weaker, choice--just watch out for Heatran. On another note, Iron Head can also be used over Return thanks to Movie Event Regigigas to provide for painfully aggravating ParaFlinchFusion, all coming from an immensely bulky Pokemon with 100 base speed. If you can only get through those first five turns...

Also, you can't outspeed base 90s such as Lucario without a Speed+ Nature, so don't even bother trying to sacrifice Bulk for Speed once you're out of Slow Start. You will have an insanely difficult time getting through it without those HP EVs, and you have a better option throwing around Thunder Wave anyways.

Substitute is the only real option Regigigas has to hold off attacks without inflicting status. Focus Punch goes perfectly with that, and it works for plenty of Pokemon with worse attack stats than 230. This ideally works against a support or defensive Pokemon who isn't likely to have a lot of attack power, with Blissey being a prime candidate. Return is the typical powerful STAB for when five turns manages to wear off, although an additional option to stall attacks such as Confuse Ray or Thunder Wave is also viable. The fourth move is largely for eliminating Pokemon who resist both Focus Punch and can absorb a Return. Thunder hits Skarmory, and Gyarados. Zen Headbutt, on the other hand, hits the levitating Ghosts. Thunderpunch can hit most things harder than Thunder after Slow Start is up, thanks to the attack stat getting a boosted nature, 252 EVs, and double the base stat. An alternative to the typical slow but powerful approach Regigigas takes would be to run Jolly 220 Speed EVs, since using Substitute and Focus Punch allows Regigigas to have a reasonable chance of setting up and lasting for five turns. In that case, 220 Speed EVs and a speed-boosting nature allows all base 90s, while wreaking havoc with Return and a second move of your choice. Don't forget Focus Punch as an option, too.

As odd as it may seem, for the first five turns, Regigigas' special attack is as high as its physical attack. It also gets some rather nice special moves, giving lease to an attempt to run a special set. With Choice Specs, you'll want to stick to the moves on the left, mostly, as those are the attacking moves with the best accuracy and coverage. As weak as HP Dark may sound, it's about all Regigigas gets to cover Ghost types, who tend to have pretty good Special Defense. If you opt to not use Choice Specs, Focus Blast and Thunder can make up for the lack of Power. Focus Blast can also be used instead of HP Dark or Confuse Ray, but just make sure you have at least one ice attack on this set for Dragons, be it Icy Wind or HP Ice. Icy Wind comes with a cool speed drop side effect that makes it useful against all Pokemon who might come in, instead of just Dragons, but HP Ice has slightly more power to score KOs with.

Other Options

Regigigas doesn't get many other usable options besides what's been listed. Aerial Ace hits 4x weak Pokemon such as Breloom and Heracross effectively, but those will probably destroy you before you get the chance to move anyways considering how long it takes it to get going. Avalanche is one good choice, to hit Dragons and Fliers, since Regigigas is usually going last anyways. Crush Grip is a good gimmick, but it tends not to be very useful in the long run considering how most enemies don't come in at full HP thanks to Stealth Rock. Drain Punch and Superpower are the only alternatives to Focus Punch for a physical fighting move, but Drain Punch's low power is really unattractive, and do you really want to be lowering Regigigas' attack after all the work you put into getting it to full?

Okay, I think I've covered just about everything that's competitively viable. Smogon's got some really bad sets up there, and I'm not going to use everything they do, because almost everything does Banding better than this chunk of moldy tofu can. Any criticism or advice would be helpful, this is my first analysis, so I'm not totally sure if I'm doing it right.

And thanks for the link, Milos, that was a huge help.

Everything looks good so far, but combine that big 3 paragraph Counters section with the Usual Counters section up top. Once you get the format ready i'll fix up any mistakes.
