Mr. Mime

Summary:

Most used set:

Mr. Mime is mostly seen as a CM sweeper or even a CM Passer. Mr. Mime is able to Pass CM boosts to its teammates considering it has a high Special Defense stat, along with the ability Filter, which will weaken super effective hits and thus make Mr. Mime indomitable!

Usual counters:

Mr. Mime can easily be countered by opposing Psychic-types such as Bronzong, who resists Mr. Mime's only STAB move by 4x, and then hits it with a powerful Gyro Ball, or can even go suicide on Mr. Mime. Another notable counter for Mr. Mime is Bastiodon, who carries an even bigger Special Defense stat that could wall Mr. Mime all day; it also carries Earthquake and Stone Edge to hurt Mr. Mime. Tyranitar, Weavile, and Houndoom are also notable counters. A gallimaufry of other Dark-types wall it, but the list just goes on and on.

Blissey should also be noted, as it is one of the best Special Defense walls in competitive battling. Blissey can come in on any of Mr. Mime's attacks and then assail it by Paralyzing or Poisoning it, and soon after finish it off with Seismic Toss, Flamethrower, or Ice Beam, or simply stall it out with Wish or Softboiled.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

Mr. Mime makes a great Baton Passer for any UU Baton Pass team. Mr. Mime makes up for its terrible Defense with its Special Attack and Special Defense, and along with Dual Screens, Mr. Mime will prove to be a nuisance.

Calm Mime @Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 HP / 6 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid

- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Substitute / Encore / Barrier
- Psychic / Thunderbolt / Charge Beam / Energy Ball

Baton Passing is one of Mr. Mime's strong points. Pass Calm Minds to its teammates, along with Substitutes if you wish. However, Hypnosis disables counters and could buy you time for an extra Calm Mind. Substitute is good for protecting Mr. Mime against status and critical hits, while Encore can stall the life out of support users, or enemies who think they can set up on Mr. Mime. Barrier can be used to cover Mr. Mime's pathetic Defense stat and make him harder to take down.

Psychic is an amazing STAB move that can cause serious detriment on the opponent, and can vanquish Weezing, Muk, and any Fighting-type. Thunderbolt will take care of the Flying and Water-types, while Charge Beam will provide Mr. Mime with a 70% chance of further boosting its Special Attack stat. Energy Ball will take care of pesky bulky Water and Ground-types, who will want to Roar or Whirlwind Mr. Mime away.

The Trickster@ Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 136 HP / 252 SpA / 120 Spe
Nature: Timid

- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball / Energy Ball
- Trick

This set will catch the opponent off guard on many occasions, and Trick tends to put walls like Blissey, Skarmory, Swampert, and other bulky Pokémon out of business. This can also ruin Physical attackers. Pursuiters will be the slayers of this set; so watch out before coming in merrimently on the aforementioned walls.

Para Dancer @Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 HP / 40 SpD / 216 Spe
Nature: Careful

- Thunder Wave
- Teeter Dance
- Substitute
- Psychic / Baton Pass

This set can be an annoyance to any team, barring offensive teams. The foe will not be able to attack for a couple of turns if both status effects are induced. Once Mr. Mime gets a Substitute it can freely annoy the foe by inducing Thunder Wave first; and once this has been done, it uses Teeter Dance to hector the opponent.

Psychic may be a better option over Substitute, considering Taunt users would back Mr. Mime into a corner and force him to struggle himself to death.

Hypnotic Mime @Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Careful

- Hypnosis
- Substitute / Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Psychic

This set is just there to induce Sleep and get a free Calm Mind. Beware of Pokémon with Sleep Talk or Early Bird, though, because they can cause immediate convulses with their ability to wake up early and thwack Mr. Mime on the floor.

Other Options:

Though Mr. Mime has few options, a Dual Screen set is a good option over the the Baton Pass set, since it will support the team a lot more. Torment on the Trick set can lock the opponent into submission. Focus Blast should also be noted since it can put huge dents to Mr. Mime's counters, such as Tyranitar, Houndoom, Blissey (if it didn't get Tricked) etc.

Opinion:

Mr. Mime has a wide movepool but is brought down by its sheet thin HP and feeble Defense, but it can be a great Calm Mind Passer, and could be a pain for Special Attackers.
