Sunflora

Summary

Most used set:

Sunflora's usefulness relies solidly in it's 2 abilities. The weather move Sunny Day is crucial to Sunflora's performance. Sunny Day activates either one of Sunflora's abilities: Solar Power and Chlorophyll. Sunflora can either gain a Huge Special attack boost or a Significant raise on it's mediocre speed. Sunflora can carry sunny day but usually prefer the help of a teammate to do this job. After that you can expect Solar Beams blasted at you or energy ball/leaf storms coming from the players that like the secure way. After that you can expect HP fire as it benefits from Sunny Day fire power boost and hits steels. Since Sunflora's movepool is very limited the last move more than likely will result in the use of the so unpopular Poison move sludge bomb. Although this may lack coverage, it can hit some things for neutral damage.

Usual Counters:

After a sunny day you can expect Sunflora to take quite a chunk of your pokemon's HP if you fail to predict correctly. The trick is to predict a non supper effective move so that your desire pokemon can come in. In OU sunflora is completely wall By heatran, Tyranitar also ruins it's sweeping party by canceling out sunny day and hitting back really hard. In NU where sunflora is most popular, Flareon can come in and destroy it with a fire move. Swalot can come in on it's moves quite easily as it resists Sunflora's grass and poison arsenal. The same can be said about Muk but in the Underused environment if you ever see a Sunflora there. Once Sunny Day is gone sunflora is no biggie. As it would be either slow or it's special attack will be weakened severely, after that any hard Stab move should work perfectly against sunflora.

Types of teams Sunflora is used in:

Sunflora can be found in your typical Sunny Day team to abuse either one of it's abilities, Even more common if this NU team is meant for the NU environment.

In-Depth:

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/squirtleboy12/192m.png Chlorophyll@Heat Rock/Focus Sash/Life Orb
Ability:Chlorophyll
Evs:252 S.Attack/252 Speed/4 HP
Nature:Modest/Timid

-Sunny Day/Solar Beam
-Solar Beam/Energy Ball/Leaf Storm
-Sludge Bomb
-HP fire

The idea of this is simple,Use Sunny Day if you want sunflora to try and set-up or replace it with Either of the other choices if your using something else to set up sun. Solar Beam is typically used but If you fear the sun might failed you and want to have a back-up move you can try leaf storm, If you dislike the special attack drop of leaf storm than you can try energy ball although the power of this will be far lower. HP fire and Sludge bomb are basically there to try and help the poor coverage grass offers.HP fire benefits from Sun and hits steels while Sludge bomb can hit things for neutral damage. Use Focus Sash if you are setting up sun with sunflora and being OHKO with the opponent pokemon,Otherwise Heat Rock can be used to make sun last longer or Life Orb to try and give sunflora a Power boost. Use a Timid nature if you want to try and outspeed things with sunflora even though Sunflora's speed might be mediocre it can be useful for the NU environment or use Modest to try and boost Sunflora's only decent stat it's special attack to hit things hard.

252 S.Attack/252 HP/4 Def or S.def
Nature:Modest/Quiet
IV's:0 if quiet

-Solar Beam
-Leaf Storm/Energy Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-HP Fire

Very much similar to the chlorophyll Sunflora except this one relies on Sunflora's Amazing Special Power. Solar Beam benefits from the sun while leaf storm can be used as a back up,If you fear the s.attack drop from leaf storm once again use Energy ball be beware though this will not hit as hard and it's not like sunflora will stay out for long either. Sludge Bomb and HP fire are basically there once again to help the poor coverage grass ofers, HP fire benefits from sun boost and hits steels while Sludge Bomb hits other things for neutral damage. This time Sunny day is not recommended for sunflora to use because this one does not get a speed boost from the sun meaning sunflora can easily be taken care of with 2 moves, This means you need something else to do this job for sunflora.Modest is the recommended nature as it hits hard,a timid nature won't really help sunflora much as it's not outspeeding many things. You can try Quiet with 0 speed iv's if you think you can run trick room and sunny day at the same time but this a much arduous task to accomplish. The Item is a matter of preference, Choice specs hits very hard combined with solar power it gives you a s.attacking stat of over 700 ; however ; you are locked into 1 move. Life Orb does not hit as hard but it gives you the option of utilizing your other moves.

Other Options:

Like many friends in the NU environment sunflora's movepool is very limited. HP ice can be used but it does not gain any boost from sunny day and it won't really hit very hard. Grasswhistle can be attempted but it's low accuracy is very disappointing and something as frail as sunflora can't afford taking a hit. Once again Sunflora also gets growth but it does not have the time to set-up because of it's frailness and unlike sunny day which can provide a huge boost, Growth only provides with a +1 special attacking boost.

Opinion:

Sunflora is a nice useful Pokemon,It has 2 very good abilities and can hit tremendously hard if put to play, however, Sunflora is slow and fragile making sweeping potential quite disappointing. Sunflora's movepool is also extremely limited and only having stab Grass it's a shame because grass does not really have the best coverage in the metagame. Sunflora might be Fragile, slow and lack a good movepool but in the NU metagame it can hit very hard, capable of sweeping entire teams.

Seriously. Just review this a few times, fix the typos, space the punctuation, and with your awesome writing and knowledge of Pokémon - your analyses will be excellent.

glad you mentioned trick room on the Specs set. its crazy good if you get both sunny day and trick room up, especially if the user can explode. simply beautiful when it works, hahaha.
