    Vaporeon

    Vaporeon:

    Summary:

    Most Used Set:

Vaporeon's most used set would have to be its Wish Support set. Vaporeon is perhaps the most reliable Wish Passer in the current OU metagame. With Vaporeon's neat ability, Water Absorb, and its overall bulk and typing, it has plenty of opportunities to switch in and cure its health with Wish+Protect, or Wish pass to cure its teammates' health. Vaporeon is also known as one of the best Infernape checks in this current metagame.

    Counters + Checks:

Vaporeon's usual counters are mostly Electric-types. Jolteon can come in and OHKO Vaporeon with a STAB Thunderbolt; however, if Jolteon decides to switch in on Vaporeon, it must watch out for Vaporeon's STAB Surf. Rotom-A makes a great counter because it can sponge Vaporeon's Surf and hit back with a STAB Thunderbolt, or it could trick a Choice Scarf onto Vaporeon, leaving it utterly useless. Another great counter to Vaporeon is Blissey. Vaporeon cannot beat Blissey one-on-one because of Blissey's high HP and Special Defense, which means that Blissey can easily sponge Vaporeon's attacks. In addition, if Blissey is using Natural Cure as its ability, then even Vaporeon's Toxic will not annoy Blissey. Celebi also can come in and cripple Vaporeon with Thunder Wave, and can set up Leech Seed while it uses Grass Knot to wear Vaporeon down, or it can OHKO Vaporeon with Leaf Storm. A special defensive Skarmory can come in, Taunt if Vaporeon uses Wish, and proceed from there by setting up Spikes, or crippling Vaporeon with Toxic. Shaymin can come in on a Surf, and hit Vaporeon with a STAB Seed Flare, but Shaymin must make sure Vaporeon isn't going to use Ice Beam on the switch-in. Even though Vaporeon seems like it has the upper advantage with Water Absorb, CroSuicune can use Calm Mind and PP Stall Vaporeon, or hit it with Hidden Power Electric. Zapdos is also a good Vaporeon check. Because of its bulkiness, it can come in on Vaporeon and attempt to force a switch, or hit it with a STAB Thunderbolt. Substitute + Toxic Zapdos can come in and scare Vaporeon away while it sets up a Substitute. Calm Mind Jirachi can also set up on Vaporeon successfully and later hit Vaporeon with a Thunderbolt.

Types of Teams Pokemon Is Used In:

Any team that needs a Wish passer will use Vaporeon. In addition, any team that needs a Water-type Pokémon such as Vaporeon to sponge Fire attacks will use it. Therefore, if you notice Vaporeon and directly eliminate it, then you can assume that your opponent's team became significantly weak to Fire-types and use your Fire-type to sweep.

    In Depth:

    Wish Passer @ Leftovers
    Ability: Water Absorb
    EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Spd
    Nature: Bold

    -Wish
    -Protect
    -Surf
    -Ice Beam/Toxic/Hidden Power Electric/Roar

This is Vaporeon's most used set, which takes advantage of Vaporeon's Wish passing abilities. Vaporeon has multiple times to come in on a Water or Fire attack, and proceed from there with a Wish, or a STAB Surf depending on the type of situation you are in. Protect lets Vaporeon recover its HP after it uses Wish, making both moves a pretty vicious combination. The last slot is up to your choice, depending on the support that the rest of your team needs. If your team is stall-based, you probably want to pick Roar as the last move, so Vaporeon can act as a Wish passer and a phazer, phazing out anyone who is attempting to set up stat boosts, and increasing damage taken from entry hazards. The EVs are pretty self-explanatory. Max out Vaporeon's HP and Defense so it can take physical hits better.

This is the main set many people use to check the top threats in the OU Metagame. Not only can this set check threats like Infernape and Heatran, but if Vaporeon is at a reasonable state of health, it can Wish+Protect to stall out Mix Salamence.

You can run the alternative spread of 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe EVs, which outspeeds Skarmory and Metagross, allowing you to hit them with a STAB Surf. However, know that you lose a bit of bulk, so Infernape's Close Combat might hurt a lot if you predict incorrectly.

    Baton Pass @ Leftovers
    Ability: Water Absorb
    EVs:128 HP / 252 Def / 128 Spe
    Nature: Calm/Bold

    - Baton Pass
    - Substitute/Acid Armor
    - Wish/Aqua Ring
    - Roar/Surf

Vaporeon is a good Baton Passer, having the bulk and moves to Baton Pass a lot of stat boosts. Vaporeon can either set up a Sustitute, or try and get a defensive boost with Acid Armor. Substitute protects you from random Choice Scarfers with Trick who try to spoil your fun. Wish and Aqua Ring can be very reliable sources of replenishing health. Roar can be used over Surf to get rid of pesky phazers such as Skarmory and Gyarados. This set is mainly for Baton Pass teams only, so you really should not place it on a standard team and expect it to work. It mainly works well because of the surprise factor.

The 128 Speed EVs let Vaporeon outspeed all base 130's after it receives two Speed boosts from Ninjask. 188 HP EVs allow Vaporeon to hit its highest Leftovers number. The rest of the EVs are poured into Vaporeon's Defense so it can boost its physical bulk to take hits better.

    Choice Specs @ Choice Specs
    Ability: Water Absorb
    EVs: 188 Def / 252 SpA / 68 Spe
    Nature: Modest

    - Surf
    - Ice Beam
    - Hidden Power Electric
    - Wish/Hydro/Signal Beam/Shadow Ball

Most of the time, people forget about Vaporeon's base 110 Special Attack stat, and this set punishes the people that ignore the tremendous power Vaporeon boasts. Surf is the primary move here, utilizing Vaporeon's hardest hitting STAB move. The incredible power of Surf will even dent the Pokémon that resist it. Ice Beam and Hidden Power Electric destroys the likes of Celebi and Gyarados, respectively. The last move is up to your own personal preference. Even though Choice Specs Vaporeon's main role is to come in and use STAB Surfs, it can still be played as a Wish passer. However, Vaporeon cannot heal itself effectively, but its awesome Ability, Water Absorb, lets it have many opportunities to come in on a Water attack and replenish its own health.

Even after Stealth Rock damage, Surf fails to OHKO defensive Rotom-A, so you can use Shadow Ball as the last move to crush Rotom-A.

If you hate the fact that Vaporeon can only use one move, then you can attach a Life Orb onto Vaporeon. With Life Orb, Vaporeon still hits hard, but it also has the choice of using different moves. In addition, it is recommended that you put Wish as the last move on the Life Orb set, so you can be able to heal your recoil away.

Without any Defense EVs, Vaporeon is not going to wall any hits, so you should know that Vaporeon's main job is to come in and use the element of surprise to wreck havoc. If you want to use this set to its maximum potential, then you should have Toxic Spikes support to wear Blissey and Celebi down.

Other Options: The Acid Armor set deserves a mention, Vaporeon can act as a Toxic/PP staller with the Acid Armor Set. The key here is to remove all special attackers from the field, get Vaporeon in on a resisted move, and use Acid Armor to raise it's defenses and act as a decent staller annoying the opponent to the fullest. As i stated before, Life Orb can be used over Choice Specs if you want a bit more breathing room while still hitting things hard with Vaporeon STAB Surf. Fake Tears is also a good choice if you want to scout the opponent Pokemon, and causing switches. Heal Bell also deserves a great mention, as it makes Vaporeon the ultimate team mate, not only passing wishes, but healing other team mates status inflictions. Roar could be used to scout opponents, as well as acting as a phazer shuffling entry hazards such as Spikes and Toxic Spikes.

Opinion: Vaporeon is an amazing Pokémon. With access to moves such as Wish, Protect, and Heal Bell, it pretty much acts as the ultimate support Pokémon. It often fulfills its role as a Wish passer, and it also has a neat Ability that helps it absorb a common attacking type in today's metagame. Vaporeon can also counter the metagame's top threats: Fire-types. With access to amazing recovery and STAB Surf, Fire-types will run screaming for help when they see Vaporeon's cute face.

A Fake Tears set would be pretty awesome. Vaporeon cannot utilize a lot of sets, but I guess Heal Bell could be mentioned somewhere in the sets. I think that Heal Bell does not deserve being put in Other Options...

I wanted to color my suggestions, but it made the analysis way too cluttered. Anyway, here is a corrected form of this analysis:

(SORRY! I couldn't finish this correction...I only corrected the Most Used Set, the Counters + Checks, and the Types of Teams Vaporeon is Used in sections; I will come back after approximately eight hours from this edit and continue...)

Returned early from my trip...here's the edit:
