I forwarded this on to Zach and Garth to see if there's any way to do such a thing. For now, if people are annoyed by the activity stream and want to see what threads are hoppin' I'd recommend just clicking on "New Posts" (as seen below):
Is it possible to blacklist threads so they don't show up on your "What's New?" feed? There is a certain thread *cough*Trilakeacademy*cough* that is simply taking up all of my feed, and it makes it hard to see activity on other threads. Is there any way this could be implemented? Or is it simply too much to code for?

heh, sorry about that thread.
That aside, I think this is a good idea. There's always some huge event or another going on in here, and it's very possible that some people aren't interested in all of it. A Chrome extension that filters out keywords/tags on Twitter comes to mind, don't suppose you could use that as a model for something similar?
PSA TO PEOPLE: If you type up a post that has spoilers for anything whatsoever, please type up a few lines before so it doesn't show up in the activity stream.
Was it all worth throwing away?
