    Pokémon Superbowl Commercial Revealed

The Pokémon commercial that will be played during the Superbowl 2016 has been revealed, and it will be a shortened version of this video. While it doesn't directly promote any products, it is interesting that Nintendo would use this form of advertising.

What do you think of this video? Is it effective as an advertisement?

While I'm glad that Nintendo is going the extra mile to do something like this, I ultimately think they should have spent the time advertising all the new products they're releasing this year. A video like this just says, "HEY. POKEMON EXISTS." and nothing else.

The fact they know that people of all ages are going to watch the Super Bowl will definitely be important. There is a a LOT of people outside the usual demographic who still play Pokemon, but I guess we all knew that...I mean, we're here. Nintendo must have a lot of faith in this commercial too, Super Bowl commercials aren't cheap!
I need a sig. Hit me up if interested, please!

Yeah, I noticed that other than Lucario, the video basically only had gen 1 Pokemon that are incredibly recognizable like Pikachu, Charizard, and Gyarados.

I suppose the target audience are people who were into Pokemon 20 years ago but fell out of it since, but I still think it would be better to say "HEY BUY THIS POKEMON GO APP AND BTW WE'RE RERELEASING RBY" rather than just leaving the viewer to look up Pokemon on their own.

So Nintendo's last three years has basically been a nonstop deluge of weird PR decisions, and I think this might be a new high. As someone who can recite the damage formula from memory I thought the video was neat, but for someone who only knew Pokémon by name - like I imagine a lot of Super Bowl viewers would be - I don't see it doing very much for sales of anything. The only people I can imagine it actually reaching in any useful way are the 25/35-year-olds who haven't touched a handheld since Yellow came out, what with all of the iconic Kanto models and stuff; I think for pretty much everyone else it'd just be a "what did I just watch" sort of moment.

Not unlike, idk, showing Nike's "just do it" superimposed over a pair of socks or something.

Either way, should be interesting to see how people take it ¯\_(ツ) _/¯

oh yeah, that said I'm kiiiiind of glad they didn't do something similar to this, like I was kind of expecting them to:

The people over at the PR department for Nintendo need to be informed that the majority of people watching the Super Bowl are drunk middle-aged men, which isn't really Pokémon's target demographic.

I still haven't figured what exactly they're trying to sell here.
