Pokemon Sun and Moon Trademarks Registered

Two Japanese trademarks have been discovered that will likely be the names of Sun and Moon's main legendary Pokemon, "Solgaleo" and "Lunaala."

Solgaleo derives from the Spanish word for sun, and "leo" may be the Latin word for lion.

Lunaala seems to be a combination of "luna" (moon), and the Latin "ala" for wing.

Additionally, there appears to be a separate trademark registration for the name "Gigareki." It is unclear what this name is for at the moment, but it may be another Pokemon or a game mechanic. "Reki" could translate to "calendar" or "history" in Japanese.

Remember, nothing is yet confirmed and this is all speculation, but the main legendary Pokemon will likely be revealed in next month's issue of Corocoro.

    Sun Lion, you say?

Keep in mind, the translations were just my speculations and could be something totally different in reality. But there is a good chance they will be the official derivatives of the names.

a lunar bird pokemon thing sounds awesome. It'll probably most likely be a fairy/flying type since moon blast is a fairy move

Also, I really hope the sun lion pokemon is a fire type of some sort.

zach, for the love of talos, make News Bot's posts show up in the activity feed because you are like the only person on the entire site who will ever notice them otherwise.

The name "Lunaala" interests me. I don't know why, but the fact that the "ala" means "wing" makes me think of Cresselia.

Anyway, I'm wary if these really are the names of the legendaries. I browsed Twitter a little more and apparently the names aren't registered under Nintendo nor Game Freak, but apparently under a guy named Yusuke Inui, who's an IP lawyer. I don't doubt these could be the legendaries and if Serebii's webmaster says it could've been done via proxy, then it can be done. I'll be equally open to the possibility these aren't the legendaries, though.

Yes, only Gigareki was registered by Gamefreak. However, the reason I posted this was because it has a similar format to Xerneas who was discovered via trademark, and companies can use proxies to "disguise" their copyright without spoiling it. The trademarks for these names have existed since February, but Japanese users are just now discovering it (since there are so many trademarks filed).

Basically, I wouldn't have posted this to the actual site if I weren't 90% sure they were legitimate. There is a possibility of some random guy registering these names to trick people, but the person who registered them was an IP laywer. Since the two names ARE derivative of "sun" and "moon," and nobody besides Game freak would have a legitimate copyright with those two names, it leads me to believe that they are real.
