This article gives you ideas of how to use Scizor in battle in the Pokémon Black, Pokémon White and Pokemon B2W2 Games. It lists popular movesets used by competitive battlers, as well as a description on how to use each set to help you understand why the moves were chosen. These popular sets are usually the best to use in battle and so reading this guide will help you in your team building.
Gen 5: OverviewScizor was a highly popular pokemon in the 4th generation and that hasn't changed a bit. It has a great Steel/Bug typing, allowing it to resist the omni-present Dragon type moves. Coupled with its amazing bulk and moves like Bullet Punch and Pursuit, Scizor is one of the best Dragon counters in OU. In the 5th generation, Scizor is still effective, despite not gaining any new moves or abilities. However, the two most common weather types, Rain and Sandstorm, help Scizor in the course of battles. Rain halves the power of fire moves, making Scizor actually capable of surviving some Fire attacks. Scizor is also immune to sandstorm, another plus. With its great resistances and the popularity of rain and sandstorm, Scizor is a great Pokemon to use in this current generation.

This was Scizor's most popular set in gen 4 and it still packs a huge punch in gen 5. Scizor can switch into many attacks, and having access to the powerful Bullet Punch and useful Pursuit makes Scizor a great revenge killer. The moves here are the same as last generation. Bullet Punch coupled with Technician makes Scizor a great revenge killer, while U-turn lets you scout your opponent's team and still deal huge amounts of damage. Superpower offers great coverage, hitting certain Pokemon like Ferrothorn or Heatran on the switch, and Pursuit will put certain Pokemon like Latios and Gengar in a difficult situation, either getting Pursuited or getting Bullet Punched.
Additional Comments
The EVs are, no surprise, the same as they were last generation. The EVs and the Adamant nature are designed to maximize attacking power, as well as making Scizor decently bulky. Some EVs could be put into special defense, but Scizor would then be more vulnerable to physical attacks.
Ability | Nature | Item | HP | Atk. | Def. | SpAtk. | SpDef. | Speed
Technician | Adamant | leftovers / life orb | 252 | 40 | 0 | 0 | 216 | 0

This is a Sword Dance set with a great amount of bulk, designed to use Swords Dance many times, then sweep the opponent's team. This set has a lot of bulk, as evidenced by the EVs, as well as having plenty of resistances, so it shouldn't be hard to set up a Swords Dance boost. Bullet Punch is again included on this set, as it still has a lot of power, despite not having many attack EVs. Bug Bite is recommended for the third slot, as it is Scizor's 'other stab' attack, and it grants Scizor the ability to KO foes like Reuniclus, Latios, and other foes. Superpower can also be used instead of Bug Bite, in particular to hit foes like Heatran and Skarmory. Roost is used for the final slot, so that Scizor can stay healthy throughout most of the match.
Additional Comments
Leftovers is the item of choice because of the extra HP every turn, letting you deal with Pokemon mentioned above even more effectively. Life Orb can be used if you want a more powerful Bullet Punch or want to sweep more easily after 1 or 2 Swords Dances.
Ability | Nature | Item | HP | Atk. | Def. | SpAtk. | SpDef. | Speed
Technician | Adamant | life orb | 176 | 100 | 0 | 0 | 232 | 0

Scizor is very good at putting opponents in a checkmate position. Sure, it lacks the power of the Choice Band set, but the fact that it can switch freely between moves is great. Scizor can switch in on Latias and Reuniclus almost untouched most times, and deal with it accordingly using Bullet Punch or Pursuit on Latias (depending on how weak it is and whether or not Latias has HP Fire). Reuniclus might stay in and Focus Blast, but you can U-Turn first for to scout and deal a large amount of damage, then switch back in and Pursuit or U-Turn again.

This set doesn't have a particular strategy. Switch in on a resisted move, Swords Dance and try to sweep as much as you can. This thing makes a great late-game sweeper, with STAB priority and Technician Bullet Punch coming from a 130 base attack stat, this will wreck almost anything in its way. Bug Bite is the best option for the third slot, as it will destroy foes like Latios and Reuniclus. Superpower is recommended for the last slot, as it gives Scizor a good move option against foes like Heatran (on the switch) and Skarmory, as well as certain Steel-typed Pokemon in general. Brick Break can be used instead of Superpower if the stat drops from Superpower are not desired, however there is a major difference in power between Brick Break and Superpower. Roost can also be used here, as Scizor still has some bulk, despite the offensive EV investment.
Additional Comments
Iron Plate can be used instead of Life Orb, if the recoil from Life Orb is not desired. Also, the Iron Plate can enable Scizor to 'fake' a Choice Band set, which can be useful in some situations. Also, Scizor doesn't necessarily need the speed EVs for this set, though they can be useful at times. One can opt for the spread of 252 Atk; 248 HP; 8 Spe if more bulk is desired.
Ironically enough, some of Scizor's counters are also good teammates for Scizor. Heatran is a great teammate for Scizor, as it can absorb the fire attacks aimed at Scizor, and Heatran can launch fire attacks of its own against the Steel types that may trouble Scizor. Magnezone also can work well with Scizor, as it can trap the Steel-typed Pokemon with Magnet Pull, then proceed to KO them with either Thunderbolt of Hidden Power Fire. Politoed, by virtue of its Drizzle ability, also pairs well with Scizor, as rainy conditions can allow Scizor to survive some Fire attacks. Pokemon that can lay entry hazards are helpful to Scizor as well, as with some entry hazards in play, Scizor can KO certain Pokemon after some Swords dance boosts. Lastly, some Dragons like Dragonite, Latios, and Salamence also are helpful teammates for Scizor as well, because the Dragons resist the main attacks aimed at Scizor, while Scizor resists many of the Dragons' weaknesses.
Other OptionsQuick Attack - could be included with the Choice Band and Offensive Swords Dance sets. It is a move that gets the power boost from Technican, and it could be used to hit Pokemon like Infernape and Zapdos for reasonable damage, or Pokeon that resist Bullet Punch.
Choice Scarf - could be used to surprise some foes. It could then use quick U-Turns to scout the opponent's team. If this kind of set is used, then it should use a Jolly nature with the spread 252 Spe, 252 Atk, 4 SpD, so that it can outspeed base 120 speed Pokemon. Also, with this set, Iron Head can be used over Bullet Punch, as Iron Head is stronger than Bullet Punch.
Baton Pass - could be used, however certain Pokemon outclass it nowadays, such as Gorebyss or Huntail Baton Passing Shell Smash boosts.
Tailwind - could also be used on Scizor. This is a borderline gimmicky kind of strategy, but Tailwind supports your whole team, making it useful in some situations.
Usual CountersMost physically defensive Pokemon can counter Scizor well. In particular, many Steel-typed Pokemon can work well against Scizor, as many of Scizor's moves are resisted by Steel-typed Pokemon. Skarmory counters Scizor well, since Skarmory hasg reat physical defense, and only takes neutral damage from Scizor's Superpower. Heatran and Magnezone can also work well against Scizor, however both have to watch out for Superpower. Heatran can fry Scizor with its Fire moves, and Magnezone can trap Scizor in play via Magnet Pull, and proceed to fry Scizor with Hidden Power Fire. Also, some Water typed Pokemon work well against Scizor, mainly because of their resistance to Bullet Punch. Jellicent and Rotom-W can switch into a Bullet Punch and burn Scizor with Will-o-Wisp, which would greatly hinder Scizor in its attempts to sweep. Gyarados also works well against Scizor because it resists Scizor's Steel, Bug, and Fighting-typed attacks, and because Gyarados' Intimidate also lessens Scizor's offenisve capabilities. In general, other physically defensive Pokemon, like Gliscor and Hippwodon, can also work well, as long as they aren't weak to Scizor's attacks.
Opinioncizor has access to Night Slash and Iron Head. While they are inferior attack options, they still do deserve a mention, Especially Iron Head which can be run on the rare Scarfed Scizor set.
Reversal can be ran with Substitute and Salac Berry for a Sub/Reversal Set.
